First he fired people based on the amount of code they'd written. There are some obvious problems with this approach. For example, more efficient code is shorter code, so on a like for like basis, a better coder would write less code. Another problem would be that, if a person's job was to correct code that was written by someone else, they wouldn't have written much code at all.

Not surprisingly, he tried to re-hire some of them when he realised he'd made a novice, schoolboy mistake.

He then gave the remaining staff an option; work much harder for the same pay or he'll pay them to leave.

Not surprisingly, most of the remaining staff chose to take the payment.

The least a person could expect of their employer is that they know what they are doing. He has demonstrated that he doesn't. Why should anyone working anywhere be expected to put up with their employer being an incompetent idiot?

If his decision was purely based on "lines of code written", then I would agree, that's not a great way to interpret developer worth.

I thought it funny that someone noted that Musk should have quoted the full text of that sentence, “And those people should not be listened to who keep saying the voice of the people is the voice of God, since the riotousness of the crowd is always close to insanity.” (a letter from Alcuin of York to Charlemagne). For those interested in the Latin, "Nec audiendi qui solent dicere, Vox populi, vox Dei, quum tumultuositas vulgi semper insaniae proxima sit."

No, it fits the description because your arguing that firing nine engineers would not be the end of Spacex implies, wrongly, that I had said it would.

I was pointing out people are underestimating the man, and his resources to get the job done in restructuring. Then you link to some article over him firing 9 employees at SpaceX. The article hardly refutes what I mentioned.

I wasn't so much refudiating what you said as pointing out that Musk fires people for personal slights.

Firing people from his other ventures due to a strange open letter - and people complaining to management about over receiving the open letter and that impact on them - has nothing to do with him being able to bring competent people over from those same ventures to help with Twitter's restructuring.

He is running out of competent people.
Also saying that he could just pull people from his other ventures seems to say that the skill sets for Spacex and Tesla would be the same as for Twitter. Sure, they are all kind of techy, but otherwise, I don't think so.

Elon Musk, owner and CEO of Twitter, has begun reinstating accounts that were previously subject to lifetime bans for breaking the platform's rules.

Announced Friday, the first reinstated accounts belong to author Jordan Peterson, comedian Kathy Griffin, and conservative parody outlet The Babylon Bee.

"The new Twitter policy is freedom of speech, but not freedom to reach" the public, explained Elon Musk on his Twitter account.


"Negative or hateful tweets will be demoted and demonetized, so there will be no back-to-back ads or other revenue for Twitter. You won't find these tweets unless you specifically look for them, which is no different than the rest of the internet," he added.

I would say that there should also be a push to reinstate some accounts that were banned for "vaccine hesitancy".

As much as I go hard on the actual anti-vaxxers, there were some who got that label, and were banned, for topics surrounding aspects of it that NBC and Washington Post are running articles about now that everyone has let their "covid politics" guard down a little.

My thoughts are "why not?" Who cares who is on Twitter or not expressing their political views? If you don't like it, don't read what that person writes.

There are very, very few literal "anti-vaxers". Statistics demonstrate about 95% of children have received all standard childhood vaccines. That is a misnomer when applied inappropriately to people who objected to lack of long term data or other particulars on this particular Covid jab.
