  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Protestant conflicting logic reading the early fathers and the Bible

The early Christians leaders created the Bible.

Some early Christian leaders" teaching are rejected by the protestants. Eg, many early Christian leaders doesn't sounds like Calvinist at all.

Protestant argue that they put the Bible above anything else? But strictly speaking, it's their interpretation above anything else?
God created th the Bible. You probably have only one interpretation of Calvinism. Strictly speaking you have another interpretation of the Bible according to your denomination. So what's the problem?

And Scripture is inspired. It has both human and God's origin. That's why its above a purely human tradition.
Inspired through the Church tradition.
Without the Church tradition there is no New Testament written. That is why the Church has the authority to interpret it.

Some of them do. In fact, some Protestants, such as those in the Campbellite movement, believe a Christian could possibly lose his salvation if he isn't careful to walk by faith and remain in the faith. Compare this with Southern Baptists who, more or less, believe that a Christian is "Once Save, Always Saved."
Some people believe that salvation is of God, and begins when HE makes the sinner a new creature. Salvation isn't a license to sin.

"6 being confident of this, that HE who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." Philippians 1:6

"23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord". Romans 6:23

The Bible is a great book! Read Ephesians 3 and 2 Timothy 3:16-17.

Right. Salvation isn't a license to sin and from my own knowledge of both the Christian Church/Church of Christ AND the Southern Baptist, there aren't usually many who think that salvation is a license to sin. In fact, from my own experience in those particular churches, I've heard them firmly preach against sin or any form of license to sin.

Yes, you're right. The Bible is a great book, and because of that fact, I've been reading and studying it now for almost 40 years.

None of them believe that willful sin after baptism results in condemnation.
That's a misunderstanding of what God is doing. Christians are a work in progress.

And that sounds illogical since scripture came from church tradition.
2 Timothy 3:16-17
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,
so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

God was in charge.
And still is and works through his body, the Church.

Cutting scripture away from the believers who were inspired to write it makes no sense.

Well, that's not true. Only the Reformed (and Reformed-adjacent) tradition asserts "once saved always saved".

See Hebrews 10:26-
1 John 1
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

  • Ephesians 2:8-10: "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them".

We can't buy what Christ already purchased.
We were bought with a price [we were actually purchased with the precious blood of Jesus and made His own]. The GOOD Shepherd doesn't let the wolf steal His sheep!

John 10
25 Jesus answered, “I did tell you, but you do not believe. The works I do in my Father’s name testify about me, 26 but you do not believe because you are not my sheep. 27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one.”

When someone becomes a Christian, he becomes a brand new person inside. He is not the same anymore. A new life has begun!

Romans 5:3-5: "Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance, character, and hope"

Jude 1:24-25
"Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, to the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen". This verse says that God can keep us from falling and present us before his glory without fault.

God began the work and promises to complete it.

Some people say they are saved no matter what they do. Others believe they are saved to a new life. God doesn't save people to continue in sin. He makes them new creatures.

Don't make the mistake of accusing people indwelt by the Spirit of cutting verses out of the Bible. I, for one, believe all of it. All scripture is God-breathed.

1 John 2:19
They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they all are not of us.

What I mean is cutting scripture away from the tradition that mediated it, gave it to us. Scripture was inspired through church tradition.
Not only the writing but selecting what to include and exclude.

Some people say they are saved no matter what they do. Others believe they are saved to a new life. God doesn't save people to continue in sin. He makes them new creatures.

And yet it is possible to make shipwreck of our faith, to turn away and become apostate.

If apostasy is impossible then warning against it is meaningless. St. John reminds us that there is mortal sin. When sin drives us from Christ, when we refuse to approach the throne of grace and confess our sins and humbly repent we are quenching the Holy Spirit and we are risking shipwrecking our faith.

The Scriptures tell us to abide in Christ.
