  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Oh no! The people who earned their admission into MIT got into MIT! This is a disaster.

The woke left used to have a saying about "losing privilege feels unfair to the privileged" and "wanting a level playing field". Well...this is a level playing field. The guys complaining on what is now a 100% biased MSNBC are upset about "certain groups" losing their special privileges.

There's a noticeable absence of how awful it must have been for all those asians for all those years to get rejected from MIT to someone less deserving.

You can have a fair world (one that tries treats everyone according to their ability and merit) or you can hand out advantages based on some archaic notion of race.

I say congratulations to the MIT and it's class....for no longer needing to pretend.

Eventually reality comes crashing down and you realize if you want healthy structures merit is needed. Especially if you want to retain your prestigious status.

This doesn't seem to be a popular topic of discussion.

I think it has to do with the way people who appear to have gotten job opportunities or educational opportunities without the qualifications of their peers often ended up labeled as Affirmative Action hires/students and now DEI hires/students. It's a sort of an implied admission that standards were lowered for reasons related to being in a "marginalized group". If the left genuinely believed otherwise....and these people were being given opportunities because they were otherwise unavailable due to some sort of racism....then being an Affirmative Action hire or DEI hire would be positive thing. It would be a label for someone to be proud of....because it meant they were every bit as qualified, if not more, than the other employees and students.

As the numbers clearly show....standards were being lowered for Affirmative Action students. The only people Affirmative Action was discriminating against were the asians who were rejected despite being more qualified. Even white students dropped 1%.

This isn't just a good thing because it's a level playing field in regards to merit... but it also removes that negative stigma attached to the 5% of black students who can no longer be assumed to be given that opportunity despite lower qualifications.
