  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why should rural voters have votes worth more than others?
The cities overrun the rural voteers and in a REPUBLIC that is not how it is supposed to work. If we wanted it to work that way that is a different system of government which A we do not have and B the CLOSEST you can get to it is REQUIRING everyone to vote on the naional level.

A republican does not require one vote be worth more than another.

Again, for what reason should votes from rural voters be worth more than others?

If we wanted it to work that way that is a different system of government which A we do not have and B the CLOSEST you can get to it is REQUIRING everyone to vote on the naional level.
Nonsense.

The rural voters already have representation in congress. Why should their vote for president matter more then mine?

if you want to see whats wrong with the US system, a president can get what is it like 23% of the popular vote and still win. Unlikly to ever happen, but you can't tell me thats not messed up. The bottom states in terms of population to compare to California have almost 2x's EC votes as California.
Uh, no.

California has about 1.15 EC votes per million people. Wyoming has over 5 per million. Over 4 times as many per person.

I might support the ending if the electoral college of every citizen were required to vote. And we ended early voting. To do that of course we would need a national requirement to allow all people to have the day off (paid) to vote or something like that. Enough polling places would also be a requirement. Mail in ballots would be allowed for those unable to leave to vote such as the elderly, handicapped, emergency workers, those in the hospital nursing homes etc.

The reason for this is things can happen, right up until the election, that may effect how people vote. People need to be completely informed before they vote.

Again, this opens the EC to gerrymandering. Thats making a lousy system worse.
