  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Kristen Day, executive director of Democrats for Life of America, denounced the presence of Planned Parenthood’s “abortion van” offering free abortions, vasectomies, and emergency contraceptives just outside the Democratic National Convention.

Then she immediately urged her organization and its allies to roll up their sleeves.

On Monday, the group announced a new diaper drive initiative for local needy and migrant families. So far, it has raised over $4,000.

It's sad but true that the Democratic Party left the pro-life position behind. Yet it did that a solid generation ago. I note that Kristen Day is NOT a delegate. I doubt there is one pro-life delegate in that convention as such people are actively discriminated out. Instead you get this:

God bless Kristen Day for speaking out against the evil practices of the modern DNC. I'd vote for Kristen Day, if she ran for office.

I heart abortion. That's the Democratic Party. They do heart abortion.

I don't get it ... how women can stand up and promote abortion this way.
They do it boldly, and with total shamelessness.

Something has truly happened to many of the women in America ...

Many of the strongest proponents of abortion appear to be women who themselves have had abortions. To me, it seems almost like they feel the need to try to 'justify' to themselves and others what they have done. But if you have any sense of conscience at all, political activism won't take away the deep sense of guilt and shame that comes with abortion. Only repentance and the forgiveness of God will set those free of that pain ...

I favor making abortion legally retroactive up to the age 116 for progressive liberals, terrorists, child abusers, kidnappers, drug pushers, militant homosexuals, drag queens, mass shooters, Islamic jihadists, Communists, and the entire governments of North Korea, China, Iran, Cuba, Venezuela, and Yemen.

It's hard to see. It's so sad.

They are hard, with hearts of stone.

It IS a justification. These women did terrible things. But they don't want to think of themselves as terrible people. So they convince themselves that the terrible things they did were actually good things. Bad becomes good and evil becomes virtuous. Their only other option would be to admit that they did bad things and to repent of them and find peace.

Part of what we do should be to minister to aborted women so they can find peace. They can't hold their babies any longer so some of them paradoxically turn their love to the brutality they suffered in some weird sort of Stockholm Syndrome thing. Most to be pitied. Pray for them.

I was being facetious. Sort of. :)

But believe it or not, I do pray for all of the above, every night. Along with praying for my family and friends, the souls in purgatory, the Church, the United States, and the world. But I leave all of the outcomes in the hands of God; usually I ask Him to bring all these people and situations to an outcome that will be beneficial to them, and pleasing to Him, if that be His will.

Maybe that sounds like a cop-out, but for me, it's just a way of preserving my mental health.

Difficult times when Democrats who appose abortion are also unable to vote Republican (at least this time).
And yet I also sympathize with Republicans who hold their nose voting.

Many of us are conflicted.

It is a difficult time for us, and this was not as much the case even a decade ago, but especially 50 years ago. If there was a way to have the politics of 1974 adapted to the society and technologies of 2024, that would be better. I sympathize with Republicans voting for Kamala, and pro-life Democrats who will vote either vote 3rd party or skip voting this year. For myself, I might have to hold my nose and go with Kamala, or not hold my nose and vote 3rd party.

Only 18% of Democrats are pro-life. That is a really low number, but one would expect 18% of Democrats in Congress to oppose abortion also.

Regardless of who gets into office, there would probably be a lot of tension in the US, potentially enough to break out into war. So yes, 2024 will be a really tense year, and I do hope that folks can afford to travel to a remote area, or outside the US for a few weeks. I recommend traveling up North, or to a cabin if possible during November.

Problem is, I think when it actually hits the fan, it's gonna go on a lot longer than "a few weeks". :(

Who knows how long it will be, if there would be no war, or for several years. This could be some End Times stuff, regardless of who gets into office. Even if the war is for say, 90 days, most people do not have the resources to escape the US for a few months.

In the Beruit scenario it just goes on and on and on.

The Party enforces it's version of orthodoxy on congresscritters. It weeds out the dissenters aggressively.

That is true. It seems like the Democrats in congress are far more left-wing compared to everyday Democrats. Pray that the Democrats learn to go back to a pro-life stance.

In the Beruit scenario it just goes on and on and on.
That's the scary scenario. In Belfast and Armagh and Derry, it just went on and on: bombings, assassinations, hit and run shootings, heavy-handed military reprisals, vigilante justice, vengeance and revenge killings.....and in the end, nobody won. Not the Provisional Irish Republican Army, not the Royal Ulster Constabulary, not the Irish National Liberation Army, not the Ulster Defence Association, not the Red Hand Commandos, Ulster Volunteer Force, or the British Army. All that happened was, the reprisals simply went on and on, until the various parties basically got sick of fighting, and decided to just.....quit.

That's what I see happening here. The sides will break down street by street, neighborhood by neighborhood, the barricades will go up, the windows will be filled with snipers, the Molotov cocktails will fly, the kids will grow up thinking that hurling rocks at the people on the other side of the fence is normal behavior, and when the Army or the National Guard moves in to restore order, whoever opposes them will be doing more than hurling brickbats and firebombs---they'll be setting off booby traps and bombs to drive them back out. And it will just go on and on and on. Ireland's Troubles went on for approximately 30 years, more or less, which is pretty much an eternity for people who are caught in the crosshairs of the various hostile factions.

The only way I see a different scenario in this between Ulster and the United States is that in our case, we have China, North Korea, Iran, Russia, and the militant jihadist groups of your choice, all waiting to pounce once we're weak enough that we can't fight them off. A foreign military intervention into an American "Troubles" is a very likely possibility; while Antifa and the Students for Justice in Palestine are swapping potshots with the Illinois Sons of Liberty and the Patriot Front in the streets of Chicago, China could land several hundred ships bearing thousands of troops in California and Oregon, and from there start moving inland, with the excuse being that America's nuclear arsenal presents a threat to world peace and stability, so they're moving in to "restore stability and order".

It could happen. Even worse would be if, say, China and Russia decided to squabble with each other over who gets what, and start battling each other on American soil. Or one of their proxies, say, Iran, with Russia's backing, or North Korea with China's backing, decides that things aren't moving fast enough, and go to an extreme, setting off a nuclear or biological weapon somewhere. Any way you slice this, it ain't gonna be pretty, and if you aren't scared, you ought to be. :(

I think the Democrats as a party need to just be destroyed and something new be created to replace them. I'm thinking the same about the Republicans. They feed off each other.
