  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

They didn't bring it up at the trial. And any lawyer worth his fee would appeal after the conviction using any and all available arguments. Which all failed, as you might know.

And note this: https://edition.cnn.com/us/live-news/derek-chauvin-federal-sentencing-07-07-22/index.html

'Prosecutors had asked for a 25-year sentence in prison for violating Floyd’s civil rights, followed by five years of supervised release. His attorney had asked for 20 years.'

When your own attorney suggests that a sentence of 20 years is reasonable, then I'm not sure that he thought the appeal was going to amount to much.

You forget context. When did the attorney ask for 20 years?

Just after he'd been found guilty and just before he was sentenced. I think his attorney thought 'Hello, there's a window of opportunity here to get 5 years knocked off'.
