  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

They call them Primary Elections; because that is where the Democratic process of electing the Party nominee takes place.
Nope. That happens at the various party's conventions. The RNC already happened, the DNC is happening this week in Chicago.

-- A2SG, which is why a person can win an early primary, like in Iowa or New Hampshire, and not be the party's candidate during the actual election in the fall.....

Give me a link to a "credible" news source.
I never claimed it came from a credible source, but there are people who believe such things. Some have posted on these forums.

In this case, Kamala Harris was elected. She was President Biden's running mate,
Voters don't vote for Vice Presidents. They vote for Presidents.

Harris was not elected as the Presidential nominee.

If Trump slips in the polls; maybe the RNC should reconvene and try out a new nominee in public opinion polls; or would that be labeled an attempt to destroy Democracy and overthrow the governnent?

Do you understand the difference between voters and delegates?

If the Democratic Party wants to tell the voters that their votes don't count; it will be interesting to see their creative new definition for Democracy.

Voters don't vote for Vice Presidents. They vote for Presidents.
Both are on the ticket, both are on the ballot, and both are elected if they win.

Harris was not elected as the Presidential nominee.
Not yet, but I do believe that most, if not all, of the delegates pledged to vote for Biden will be voting for her. I don't believe that has happened yet, though. Monday was only the first day, though.

If Trump slips in the polls; maybe the RNC should reconvene and try out a new nominee in public opinion polls; or would that be labeled an attempt to destroy Democracy and overthrow the governnent?
Parties decide their own nominees based on their own rules. No one votes for president until the general election, and that's not until November.

If the GOP wants to dump Trump, there are ways they can do that. And democracy won't be destroyed, nor will the government be overthrown.

-- A2SG, same thing if either nominee dies....

Yup.

Nixon already did that back in 1974. And yet, somehow, democracy and the country survived.

What happened? A coup? An insurrection?
Neither.

Biden stepped down, and endorsed Kamala Harris to take his place as the party's nominee.

-- A2SG, the party will decide if they agree in the next few days....

Nope.

They seemed sincere in their belief.

Republicans understand that we live in a Republic. It was never a Democracy. Our first Republican President was not elected by the popular vote.

No, they pick the party's nominee. The electoral college then picks the president.

Thanks for clarifying that the Democratic Party is making it clear to their voters that this isn't a Democracy.
What do you think it is, if not a democracy?

Or is this just you saying you prefer the term "representative republic"?

-- A2SG, six of one, really....

If you could produce the Carlson quote; I suspect that you would have already done so.

...a Republic if you can keep it.

"Democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been found incompatible with personal security, or the rights of property; have in general been as short in their lives as they are violent in their deaths." --James Madison, Federalist Papers (# 10)

The president has never been elected by popular vote. We've used the electoral college system since 1787.

-- A2SG, though, I would vote for an amendment ending the electoral college and changing the presidential election to a purely popular vote instead, if such were proposed....

It wasn't a quote. Tucker got ahold of the January 6 footage and produced an edited version that made it seem like the capitol police were escorting protesters through the capitol on a guided tour, including the infamous Shaman character. Many posters here cited that footage to claim that coverage of the riots on January 6 were misleading.

-- A2SG, the posts are here, somewhere....I can't say i recall exactly where, though....
