  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So, you know what everyone means, when they say "America first"?
I know what the term means to the far right. As you see, it has become the rallying cry for Nazis, KKK, and other fascists in the United States.

By the 1930s, “America First” stopped being a presidential slogan, and it began to be claimed by extremist, far-right groups and who were self-styled American Fascist groups, like the German American Bund and the Klan. When the America First Committee was formed in 1940, it became a magnet that attracted all of these far-right groups that had already affiliated themselves with the idea.
Indeed.

I see a group of Americans angry (regardless of race creed etc.) that are ignored, ridiculed, by the very people who are supposed to be representing them; instead, opting to rub elbows with the celebrity class. Shipping jobs overseas, leaving the options of careers as either manufacturing Taco Supremes, or a climber in the executive world.

That's the "America first" people I know.
(Edited to clarify my last sentence)

When he ran in 2016, I remember a clip of him in Pennsylvania; he told the crowd that he was going to bring (Penn State football coach) Joe Paterno back- only problem was Paterno was dead. I truly thought he blew it, after that.
I would have to give credit to Kellyanne Conway for keeping him on message enough to win that election. Had she not managed Trump, she would be hailed as an historic "first"woman, too.

Now, I believe Don Jr is in charge, and is cheerleading Dad to be his braggadocios self. Donald Trump, like many high profile people, only have a very few individuals who can get his attention.
His press conferences didn’t help. I think he would have been better off just to keep doing rallies

His rallies are more of a fun thing - I personally have no interest in them.

He is disliked by conservatives who don't think he's conservative enough - although the "conservatives" that are in DC, don't do much conserving, when push comes to shove.

Of course, he is hated by liberals because he is "literally Hitler" , and they do all kinds of gymnastics to prove their point.

Both establishment Republicans, and Democrats hate him because he is busting up the phony baloney matrix that has been going on for decades.

That was JD Vance.

Im not aware of others who called him literally "Hitler".

Ot the flip side, I was told by a Christian here that Trump is literally a "messiah" anointed by God. So perhaps it all balances out.

The comparison is mainly about how both developed and relied upon a cult of personality. I find this anecdotally corroborated often enough to think theres something to it. Like with the "messiah" guy here. Front yard shrines Ive seen. Etc etc.

I know intelligent, reasonable people who think Trump is God's man for these times.
I don't really see it that way

Both establishment Republicans, and Democrats hate him because he is busting up the phony baloney matrix that has been going on for decades.
With Trump University, he stole everyone's money. With Trump Foundation, he stole everyone's money. With Bannon's "Build the Wall" scheme, Bannon stole everyone's money, and Trump pardoned him. With the election, Trump tried to steal the votes, and sent in fake electors as part of the scheme.

He's not draining the swamp or busting the matrix; he's a thief and so are his associates.

Trump isn't really a celebrity. He's kind of a wannabee. He rubs elbows with a few B-list actors, though. And Americans are energized, but "angry" would be the wrong description:

I think he is a bit weird, though. Vance is totally weird.

Trump has always looked weird. Walz has made Vance look weird. Trump's team would never have chosen Vance.

Sure are a lot of them,um?

By comparison, look at a Trump rally...

Sad, scared, angry, dispirited people. That's what's really killing Trump's campaign. It's about anger and fear and resentment.

Latest poll this morning, Sienna Poll:
Vice President Kamala Harris, the presumptive Democratic presidential candidate, leads former President Donald Trump in North Carolina, a battleground state he won twice in past elections, according to a New York Times/Siena College poll released on Saturday.

The poll released by the Times and conducted by Siena College, which has previously earned a reputation for accuracy and transparency, shows Harris leading Trump in North Carolina 49 to 47 percent. The poll features results in four battleground states—Arizona, Georgia, Nevada and North Carolina—with 2,670 likely voters surveyed between August 8 through 15 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.1 percentage points.

They've got to do something to stop the bleeding, and fast.

Maybe pull a Joe Biden on the democrats. Trump drops out, and the republicans pick a far more likeable and competent candidate...
iu

Er.... well... never mind.

Actually that would be great but it’s not going to happen.

A lot of enthusiasm for a meme.

No one knows anything about her. What her agenda is.

She got quite a going over when she was running for VP. And even more so now. It's not that we don't know much about her; it's that Trump's handlers are having an awful time finding something negative about her.

As weird as Vance sometimes appears to be, I think he'd make a better candidate than Trump. But even as Trump's cognitive difficulties increase, he ( or his handlers) still seem to have a lock on the republican party.

Yes, Vance can discuss the issues and would do well in a debate.
