  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A virtual campaign event focused on organizing Catholic support for Vice President Kamala Harris’ 2024 presidential campaign was canceled at the last minute Thursday but may be rescheduled for a later date.

The event, dubbed “Catholics for Harris-Walz National Organizing Call” was originally scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 15, from 8 to 9 p.m. but was canceled earlier that morning. A website advertising the event called “Catholics4Kamala” also went offline on Thursday. Visitors to the site are met with a message that the website is undergoing maintenance.

John White, who serves on the leadership committee for one of the event organizers — Catholics Vote Common Good — told CNA that he believes the event will be rescheduled for some time after the Democratic National Convention, which takes place from Aug. 19 through Aug. 22.

'Catholics for Harris' is about as incongruous as 'Episcopalians for Life'. Sure I suppose there are a few such people. But it's a given, even among people who lead such things that Catholics for Harris is an incongruous thing. A backwards thing. Do we expect that there might be a 'Pro-Life for Harris' group by chance? Or a 'Religious Liberty for Harris' group? Some odd Catholic bishops I could see as wanting to be 'Catholics for Harris' I guess. The kind who should never have been ordained in the first place.

'Katholics for Kamala' is still down in maintenance mode. Their virtual campaign event has turned into a fundraising page. I wonder if they are raking in the millions of dollars from all of those millions (not, really just dozens) who call themselves 'Catholics for Choice'?

Catholics for Trump is incongruous too, but less so. Personally I won't be a member of that group, and I don't think my fellow Catholics should be members of that group either, but I can sort of see how they could do it. But Catholics for Harris makes zero sense to me. While I do NOT subscribe to the idea that voting Democrat this year is an automatic mortal sin I do think that for some people it will indeed be an occasion of serious sin and I would hope they pray long and hard about it, especially since there are alternatives that are far less pro-death.

Ugh. So tired of some of the faithful leading people astray.

Enough is enough.
I don’t think it’s any ‘faithful’ who are leading people astray. This is subversion.
