  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Reservoir of liquid water found deep in Martian rocks

Scientists have discovered a reservoir of liquid water on Mars - deep in the rocky outer crust of the planet. The findings come from a new analysis of data from Nasa’s Mars Insight Lander, which touched down on the planet back in 2018.

The findings are published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Insight's scientific mission ended in December 2022, after the lander sat quietly listening to "the pulse of Mars" for four years. In that time, the probe recorded more than 1,319 quakes. By measuring how fast seismic waves travel, scientists have worked out what material they are most likely to be moving through.

The analysis revealed reservoirs of water at depths of about six to 12 miles (10 to 20km) in the Martian crust.

(Scientists) estimate that there is enough liquid water on Mars to form a layer across the surface that would be more than half a mile deep.

This is awesome. Hopefully, we can discover some bacteria or life under the surface of Mars. Hopefully, within my lifetime, or before Russia nukes us. ;)

I think that this ^ finding conclusively proves that the Noah flood actually took place on Mars. ;)

Haha, good one. Noah is a Martian. His ark was a warp capable ship made out of advanced Martian wood. ;)

On no! What this will mean is governments will someday spend a lot of money trying to ship this fresh water back to Earth for drinking water when if they'd only look more closely here they'd find a whole bunch of it. :)

No need to ship the water.

Isn't "liquid water" a tad redundant?
Only if you've never heard of ice or water vapour.

Water has been found on Mars before but only in the form of ice or vapour. This find is significant because it's the first known instance of water in liquid form.

Liquid water suggests the (remote) possibility of conditions conducive to life. It also tells you something about temperatures and structure in the deep Martian crust.

Probably, or relocate humans to Mars. Or, not bother with it, cos travel to Mars is expensive. We could extract the water (humidity) out of the air nowadays.

What's the big deal about this, when the moon has the sea of tranquility?

Because the Sea of Tranquility is not literally a sea. It's just an area given a fancy and memorable name.

Yeah I know, that was a joke.

Will admit: I am quite joke blind for the internet, and I have seen people say stuff as silly as that and be 100% serious.

There couldn't be a body of water on the moon because it's a flat vertical disk that's lit from behind.
