Do y'all agree with the application of this double standard?
Personally, I feel that the TSA/FBI or any other three letter organization should not grant permission to anyone on a watchlist to access or use any form of public transportation (train, bus) or aircraft. So, the FBI either made a mistake, or purposely committed negligence by allowing Asif Raza Merchant to enter the country.

By the way, Just The News is a pretty trustworthy, and center-right news company, according to Allsides. It is just 0.5 points off from being center. Typically, I trust news sources between -2.0 and 2.0 (though The Guardian is -2.40), so this is good.

I agree that Tulsi shouldn't be on a watchlist but the other case seems to be a situation where they let someone in and monitored him and set him up with undercover agents. It actually sounds like a good job.

Ooh, I see your point. So, by allowing Asif in, the three letter government organizations could gather information to determine his plan, and have enough evidence to thwart it and potentially prosecute Asif.

Yeah, the hitman he hired was an undercover agent. They had to have been monitoring him

It is good that an undercover agent was monitoring this guy. I enjoy news stories where undercover cops catch creeps/pervs and lock them up, so hopefully, this undercover agent catches terror threats.

What justifications does the government have for placing Tulsi Gabbard on some kind of travel watchlist?
I honestly have no idea, cos I do not follow politics that much.

Quote from Voz News: "According to AMNC's executive director, surveillance teams were first assigned to Gabbard on July 23, a day after he criticized Kamala Harris, Joe Biden and the National Security State in an interview with Laura Ingraham."

Source (Voz News, a Latino-American run newspaper):

Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) has a document that asks the same question as us:

What is the double standard here? Gabbard was subjected to extra searching, then allowed to continue on her merry way. Merchant was maybe searched or maybe not, the story doesn't specify, allowed to continue under surveillance and arrested before he could carry out a plot.

Ooh, I had to get swabbed at an airport in Germany in the mid-2010s or so, cos the security does random checks, so I see your point. It only took 1 minute, cos mass spectrometers are pretty fast. :) Of course, I came out negative and went on my merry way.

The machine looked something like this

The program is called the Quiet Skies program (not Open Skies), but yes, that article is mostly valid. This program has been criticized for breaching the right to privacy. Heck, some people are nervous flyers, and the TSA may even track if a passenger sweats or trembles during a flight.*

*Quote from NPR: "The air marshals observe the targets and keep notes, the Globe reports — documenting whether they change clothes or shave while traveling, abruptly change direction while moving through the airport, sweat, tremble or blink rapidly during the flight, use their phones, talk to other travelers or use the bathroom, among many other behaviors."

Here is the direct article, straight from the source (Matt Taibbi):

The TSA is notoriously arbitrary yet secretive about their policies but besides getting extra scrutiny which most of us have had to endure at least once what is the big deal? She got searched before boarding and then she was allowed to fly.

You didn’t answer my question - what was the double standard?
