  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

"They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. "

Not an attack, since I'm just "restating" "Christian beliefs", right? I also have a bridge to sell, if you're interested.
He wasn’t referring to you, just the transgendered movement.

There aren't any figures for minors. And I asked for one where we could examine the reasons for it, should the details be available. Which is not likely due to patient/doctor privileges. But whenever you find one, please let me know.

And in passing, from the report discussed in your link:

'Prior studies have shown that GAS is associated with improved quality of life, high rates of satisfaction, and a reduction in gender dysphoria. Furthermore, some studies have reported that GAS is associated with decreased depression and anxiety.'

If you disagree with it, why link to something that says it's beneficial? But I guess you didn't read it.
The study at Vanderbilt just links to another NR article.
I don't know where you got what you posted
Is it from JAMA?

It linked to the JAMA site where the information came from. A site that you didn't bother to read. If you'd known it said that the procedures were beneficial then you probably might have skipped it. Seeing as it counters the very reason you posted it.

You said there were no figures for minors. There are.
There aren't. And I don't want figures in any case. I want a case that we can examine so we can see what was done, why it was done and what the outcomes were.

I'll wait here while you look for one.

Now that integration, gay marriage, interracial marriage, abortion and most other sexual issues have run their course and been lost I kind of wonder where these people will go once they exhaust the transphobia.
There is still the basic issue from which all the others spring: fertility and reproduction. If women can decide for themselves when they want to have children there may not be enough to stave off The Great Replacement. If women can decide for themselves who they want to go to bed with and when, some perfectly respectable patriotic American men might not be getting any.

No, that's another link. I asked if you were talking about the JAMA site

I'll be hitting the sack soon. There's no rush. There'll be no example when I check in again at breakfast tomorrow. It's all sound and fury. They'll complain about transgender minors but when you ask for an example to investigate...it's crickets.

And honestly, if someone did find an example and I thought that there were problems with it I'd say so. These things must be considered on an individual basis.

Why am I having to guide you around your own link?

'A new study has been published by the Journal of the American Medical Association about the number of people who have had “gender-affirming” surgeries — including minors — between 2016-2019. The numbers are startling:'

You said there were no figures. There are. Right in that article. And now you say you don’t want the figures. Okay.

The figure you gave is for ages 12 to 18. There is no figure that separates minors from young adults. And I said I don't want figures. I've explained what I want. It's what you won't be able to find. But you never know. If all your rumblings of discontent about genital surgery performed on minors is not just hot air then I want a specific example that we can examine. It means that you have to do some work to support your position.

Good hunting!

No, there were not complete figures, only estimates and percentages and genders were not specified. Going by what they give us, there can't be more than a few hundred young boys who had their weenies hacked right off.

Actually it was the Democrats who did it.
That is just as messed up. Romney would have made a good president in 2012, just as he would in 2024. We needed Obama in 2008 to get us out of the recession, but Romney could have helped us get back to normal in 2012, and get rid of that Tea Party that formed in the late-2000s and early 2010s.

From the outside looking in there are also cultural elements which are not necessarily limited to Evangelical Christians. One obvious American trait is the tendency to place personal rights above collective social responsibilities.
American is not personal rights above collective responsibility. America is personal rights is a collective responsibility. Personal rights end where the rights of another begin. We acknowledge this as a collective.
Attitudes to guns, nationalised medicine, the US Covid death rate, the minimum wage, industrial conditions, poverty levels are all examples.
As said above, our rights as a collective people, is personalized by liberals. When our rights to bear arms is taken away, it is taken away from the law abiding individuals, since criminals do not obey that law, and possess guns unlawfully already.
There is also a pronounced conservative lean over and above the influence of Evangelical Christianity. As I said earlier the US is politically further to the right than most other Western nations. Hierarchical status appears to be important along with 'respect' for authority.
We usually refer to such persons as law abiding people.
I would never, for instance, refer to our PM as 'Mr Prime Minister' - I'd call him 'Albo'.
And disrespect for the rights of others as a collective above individual rights.
The other characteristic I sense is insecurity which in turn leads to understandably self-centred 'survivalist, behaviour. This insecurity is a result of an extreme capitalist culture with limited safety nets (like 'free' medicine) and a relatively powerless working class. It may well be that this insecurity is part of the reason for high levels of religiosity and the apparent (?) high levels of mental illness.

I suspect that your "broken and undemocratic politics" are a consequence of some of these factors - not a cause.

OB
What democracy? Just some "collective" which is above individuals which are somehow distinct form that collective. America is individuals each having rights collectively, understanding our individual rights end where the other begins.

Distinction without a difference is a logical fallacy. Your reply to having that pointed out is another logical fallacy called a non sequitur.
No, a distinction without a difference is when you give two labels for exactly the same thing...I didn't do that. I asked where he got his medical degree, of which he has none, and is therefore unqualified to make declarations on medical procedures or anatomy. A non-sequitur is when you follow a statement with something irrelevant. Questioning someone's qualifications is not that remotely. But thanks for trying, professor.
