  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Tim Walz Said He Wants To Ban Guns He ‘Carried in War.’ He Never Saw Combat.

In the joint training exercises with NATO I am sure they carried weapons of war.
How do you train for a conflict? With water pistols? SMH.

Russia has been a threat to NATO for years, and an escalating threat today.

In S. Korea, the US and Korean forces have joint training exercises, and you bet they take them seriously (as does Kim Jung Un.)

Another attempt to tarnish Walz' reputation debunked.

He didn't win the Congressional sharpshooter medal six years in a row by practicing with cap pistols in Italy.

Gosh, you think so? No, actually you'd like to think so. It's not like his service has been hidden away and he's trying to slide some heroics into the mix. We all know exactly what he did, when he did it and where he did. No bone spurs to keep him away from serving his country.

And what we know is that Walz “was deployed to Italy in 2003 to protect against potential threats in Europe'. It's plainly meant that he's talking about weapons he carried as a soldier.

These shameful attacks only emphasise Trump's record as someone who never gave a day to his country. So I say keep it up and the electorate will have the comparison between the two to make their choice. One who gave so many years and one who went on record to say that he 'prefers people who don't get captured' in relation to McCain who was held captive and tortured by the North Vietnamese for 6 years. Whose injuries caused him lifelong disabilities. And a man who refused to be released until others were before him.

Walz is a man of honour. Yeah, he's a liberal and you don't like his policies, but these attacks reflect very badly indeed on those who make them. Keep them up, I say. Show your true colours and the people will decide.

I don't like his policies but I hope he stays in there. You may be right, maybe he can explain it away, but Kamala has a history of getting rid of people. As to McCain, you should search for and read the article: "REDS SAY PW SONGBIRD IS PILOT SON OF ADMIRAL" to see what the U.S. media thought of him during the Vietnam War. It wasn't until after the Keating Five that the media began the big remake.

She can't. When she wins and he becomes VP it's not in her power to remove him. And someone would have to be missing their meds to suggest that she'd want to.
As to McCain...
The man was a hero. Period. He had honour. Period. He had compassion and love for his country. Period. He respected his opponents. Period. He served his country at great personal expense in the Navy and did so as a senator for 30 years. Period.

Where are the men like that in the present Republican Party? He puts them to shame. And you end up with Trump. Imagine comparing the two. It's madness to even be asked to do so.

McCain's temper often got the best of him, he would berate many who disagreed with him. A very sad man with plenty of problems.
A couple of his fellow POWs came forward and stated that all the rest of the POWs in McCain's section of the prison were not tortured. The extensive interviews McCain did, in violation of the code of conduct, might have resulted in the beating or death of other POWs. Here's an update on Walz:

Ha ha ha - I see what you did there!
Yes - it's so interesting how MAGA types pile the hate on for one semantic difference when Trump has lied to and deceived everyone around him, consistently, his entire life, starting from when he was a young man trying to get out of service.

It's not The Hardy Boys but it's still a mystery: How did Donald Trump get a medical deferment from the military after previously being declared fit to serve? And why would the miraculously sprouting bone spurs keep him from military service but not his busy athletic schedule while in college? The plot thickened when Trump said he escaped the draft due to a high lottery number even though he had been medically exempted for more than a year.

He is a physical coward, with five Vietnam deferments for “bone spurs.” He takes a golf cart when he golfs, his only exercise. He’s lost any muscle tone he ever had. And he looks more like his mother at this point than his father.
Shortly after Trump left Wharton, a doctor diagnosed bone spurs in his heels, a condition enabling him to get a medical deferment from the draft. He had already received four previous deferments because he was studying.
Trump, who at the time was a keen sportsman and had attended a military school before going to college, has offered a variety of explanations over the years for how and why he did not serve in Vietnam, instead going on to pursue a career in real estate. His avoidance of combat was hardly unusual among young Americans from wealthy families or those able to go to college.

I'm not going to demean the memory of McCain by entering into any further discussion on him. If you want to dump on a genuine American hero then you go ahead. You'll be judged by it as others see fit.
Here's an update on Walz:
It's not an update. It's the same recycled junk. Good grief, you guys must be panicking to stoop this low. The MAGA faithful will lap it up. The rest of the country, especially middle America, will see it for what it is. Desperation.

That article says: "A Minnesota National Guard response to Fox News disputes the fact that Walz actually went into battle, but rather he skirted any skirmishes and retired instead, leaving his troops behind."

He was never in battle. There were no 'skirmishes'. And yeah, he retired. After joining up when he was 17. And like I said, he had nothing like, I dunno, osteophytes to prevent him from doing so. And he put in his notice well before any order to move out had been received. He left his troops exactly where they were. In that bloodbath that you know as Minnesota.

It's the same junk the right have been serving up for a few days. Not only has it grown cold, it's actually started to smell a little off. You know? But you seem to enjoy this slop, so bon appetite.

Would this be the same Fox news that sold out all intellectual credibility as it followed the ratings it got by repeating every one of Trump’s lies? Lies that cost it $787.5 million in a ‘hush money’ settlement fee to stop everything coming out in civil court when Dominion (voting machines) threatened to have everything exposed if their Civil damages case went ahead? The same Fox news that fomented insurrection and vandalism of the Nation’s Capitol - leading to a number of deaths - all based on the absolute lie that the 'election was stolen'? The same Fox news whose CEO founder Rupert Murdoch himself said that “he believed the 2020 election was fair and had not been stolen from Trump.” You’re quoting THAT Fox news? Riiiiight! (Elbow nudge nudge wink wink!)

Seriously it's like you have forgotten what the main purpose of the American National Guard even is? It's like you think Walz was in some forward recon unit of the Marines or something - and somehow magically never saw real front line action due to constantly avoiding it?
Dude - it's a defensive and natural disaster unit. Unless the Feds recruit them in a really big international emergency - their job is to stay home and defend the homeland. Help with hurricanes. That sort of thing.

Dude - in other words - if Walz avoided actual conflict - it would have meant that it was too late to complain about it. Because your nation would have already been invaded!
But hey - at least what Walz always says is ringing true again.
Some MAGA types are just weird.

I've won shooting medals too, but I never claimed I was "in war" as Walz claimed.
While Walz could have worded his statement a little better, nothing he said was inaccurate.

"I spent 25 years in the Army, and I hunt. I’ve been voting for common-sense legislation that protects the Second Amendment, but we can do background checks. We can research the impacts of gun violence. We can make sure those weapons of war that I carried in war are only carried in war."

Walz never claimed that he saw combat; however, he did serve during wartime and was deployed to Europe in a support role during Operation Enduring Freedom. This, by definition, makes Walz a war veteran.

A "war veteran" is defined as someone who was deployed to foreign waters or soils by any branch of the U.S. armed forces to participate in direct or support activities against a U.S. enemy.

This will finish him.
Attacking someone running for office who served honorably in the US military and later served on the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee and the Armed Services Committee fighting for veterans's rights and benefits is a losing strategy.

By dishonoring Walz' 24 (!) years in the National Guard, the Trump campaign is dishonoring all Guard members, past and present, who made sacrifices for our country.
Twenty-four years is a long, long time. Guard members will be turned off, I'm sure, by two disgruntled former colleagues to cast shade on him.
I know the NRA will throw everything they can at him for his gun reforms in Minnesota.
How many politicians have had the class and integrity after changing their beliefs on background checks and assault weapons to return every campaign contribution they'd ever gotten from the NRA?
His very existence--a politician who broke from the NRA and not only succeeded but thrives, worries them.
How can they keep all their other little mouthpieces in line, voting their way, if Walz has shown them they can throw off those shackles and get reelected?

Wow, I didn't know that. As you said, the man has integrity. From here: Where does Tim Walz stand on guns and gun control? Here's his record.

'After the 2017 mass shooting at a music festival in Las Vegas, the deadliest in modern U.S. history, Walz said he donated his campaign contributions from the NRA, $18,000, to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes fund, a charity that helps families of service members who were injured or killed.'

He just keeps going up in my estimation. I'd be so impressed with him whatever party he was in. And seriously worried if I was Republican. Class indeed.

One veteran challenging another veteran's personal military record and a statement he made about himself, hardly qualifies as an entire branch of the military being dishonored.

This will finish him.

This is what I find utterly ridiculous. Even if he's talking about weapons that other people carried in the war.

M4's, M249 Squad weapons, M240's, M9 pistols, M203 grenade launchers and ending generally with what they pick up off enemy combatants were the main "weapons carried in war"

Snipers use Barrett 50 cal. sniper rifles and also specialized subsets of this for special forces.

There's only 2 items in this list that are even legal to buy, one is basically just a regular 9mm that cops and your grandmother has for self defense and the other is the 50cal sniper rifle.

Only rich people buy the sniper rifle because ammunition is outrageously expensive however it's a long range sport rifle and rich folk are into that.

Really though when you think of weapons carried in war you think of the fully automatic, and all automatic weapons made after 1985 (if memory serves) are already banned so the weapons used in Iraq are already illegal to own.

It really does show ignorance to stand around painting yourself as something your not offering a crowd of people to ban what's already illegal.

It truly inspires confidence, not.
