  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It's a bit early. Normally, the Democratic Party votes on the party platform at its convention, and the convention is scheduled for August 19-22. Once Harris becomes the official nominee and the party has finalized and approved its platform, I expect that the platform will be available on the party's website.

So they have to vote for it to know what’s in it.

How difficult is it to understand? They'll vote on policies they want the Democratic party to officially put forward. How on earth can you vote on something without knowing what it is?

Pelosi thought it was possible. Maybe this is more of the same.

People have quoted Pelosi to you out of context. If you don't check these things out for yourself, then you'll be fooled by what they say every time. Allow me to add the context for you. Her actual quote:

"We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of the controversy." pelosi said we need to vote on it to see what s in it - Yahoo Search Results

Why you didn't check is beyond me. Even more surprising is that it seems that you actually thought that the Democratic Speaker of the House was going to vote on a bill to find out what was in it.

So, yes. It's more of the same. You now think that the Democrats will vote on policies without knowing what they are. Which is simply...bizarre.

How do they know what to vote on?
Gosh, I don't know. Maybe someone tells them. Perhaps it's Chinese Whispers. Maybe it's written down somewhere and they read it. Maybe someone gets on stage and raps the policies. Perhaps somebody mimes them. It's so difficult to know. And we should be told!

Yep. It's a complete mystery to me how anyone gets to know about what they're required to vote on. It's really got me flummoxed. My flabber has never been so gasted.

Your input would be a big help in determining this important political conundrum.

Just glancing over it, it doesn’t look like they even looked at Trump’s plan. Just a bunch of scary words.

Yeah, that page doesn't say very much. It's not nearly specific enough, and it talks way too much about former president Trump.

The 2020 Democratic party platform is on the party's website at Party Platform - Democrats . It's a 92-page document that's much more specific about actual policies. I'm hoping that a similar document will emerge from the 2024 convention.

I read a quote recently to the effect that the GOP had gotten so weird partially because they're caught in their own information bubble. And the talking points have become so detached from reality that only those well versed in minutia of the "Republican cinematic universe" would be able to communicate with each other. This post, responding to a reasonable explanation of how parties enact their platform with a decade plus old meme, reminded me of that quote.

Why do you bother? It is not like they care it is out of context. They just want a pithy way to dismiss things out of hand.
