  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Trump is running scared

Fortunately, I was blessed with kids who responded well to verbal correction.
They respond well to a gentle voice. I was yelling at my son once and he got so upset he quit breathing. So I learned my lesson quick not to do that again. I was very careful not to touch my first son also. Although when he was bigger I would show him I could still knock him off balance if I wanted to. I guess you learn that playing football.

.English thumb or metric thumb?
They go by the size of the King. A foot is the size of the kings foot so everyone in the kingdom knows how big he is. Only King David was small, but my wife says small but fierce. Some say tiny but terrible.

If the parent is good at it, verbal abuse can be worse than physical abuse. It's easy to forget how much influence one has on one's children.

His mom is from another country so it is interesting to see how much of her culture he has adapted to. His company is a melting pot from all over the world, so no one know what anyone is there.

He’ll easily win the debates with Harris- I have no doubt about that.

How can you have no doubt? Did you see his interview with NABJ? Once they get down to policy questions, he has no plan. You can tell he's making it up as he goes. Maybe he'll be better prepared come debate time, but he definitely floundered under pressure that time.

That Agenda 2025 thing people are so up-in-arms about is the plan Republicans were criticized for not having.

There's often noticeable differences. One of my friends in the AF had a German wife. She said that in Germany, parents often leave small children at home alone, and adolescent kids often take the train to the next town on their own. She was smart enough to research American culture on parenting, and avoided problems thereby.

Bad labeling. Why not call it the "Mar-a-Lago Protocol?"

Because it's the Republican agenda that begins taking affect when Trump is back in office, which is in January of 2025.

Half African descent. So yes.
I have grown up being told that because I'm half black it makes me black. This is not true. I am half black, one-quarter Irish and one-quarter Swedish. It's a 50/50 situation in regard to skin color but I was told by my 6th-grade teacher, "If you have ay black in you then you are black." It led me to deny half of my heritage and I gre u confused about my ethnic background.

I got into a relationship with a woman who opened my eyes to the fact that I was just as much white as I am black. In white and segregated America, they came up with the "one drop rule" which dictates that if you have any black blood you are black. We now know through DNA that this is not genetically true, however it is socially true. I think that times are changing and multi-race people are starting to be recognized as such.

Though I don't consider myself "black" my African blood and the culture of our country still make me an "African American" or in the old vernacular, I am "colored" because my skin is not white, it has color.

I would get annoyed when people would describe Obama as "the first black president" because he is not black. His father is black and his mother is white. I have doubts that a truly "black man" would have had the same chance of being elected if they were for example "Westly Snipes black." Being of mixed race makes whites feel more comfortable than a 100% black man. Some people describe it as "they get a pass."

Yeah, that's the classic way it was in America when I was young. Race is a cultural construct and has no intrinsic logic.

I see more of that. And it makes more sense to me.

I remember a "Sandford and Son" episode where the junkyard had stuff stolen by some guys. The cop asks Red Foxx's character "were they colored?"

"Yeah. White."

In fact, no one is actually black, and no one is completely white. Cultural stuff, not reality. As you point out, genetically none of it makes any sense at all. The Human Genome Project made it clear that there are no biological human races now.

Used to be a thing where light-colored people could pass as whites in many places. There are also instances of very dark people being discriminated against by lighter-colored people who were mixed race.

It would have been historically more appropriate, though. Somewhat reassuring that Trump has distanced himself from some of the blackshirtish things therein.

It's actually been a thing since the days of slavery. As the slave masters raped their slaves, they would take them in the house to be maids and cooks. There is certainly racism within the black community since that time when there were the "house negros" and the "field negros." I know that in my personal experience, being raised by a white mother and having brown skin. Kids in the neighborhood would tell me "You talk white." So I tried to fit in by adopting street slang but there were always kids that would say I was fake and I was not trusted by many of the black kids except my good friends and not accepted by many of the white kids. I think we should start recognizing mixed-race people as just that, mixed. There is no need to put people in one category or the other. I once had my sixth grade teacher inform our class that "whatever you are mixed with, that's what you are." It was confusing to me because I knew I was both but I listened to him because he was a teacher and I figured he knew what he was talking about. So I spent years denying my European heritage and it was a real mind-bender. It wasn't until I met the love of my life who told me to celebrate all of my heritage and I really understood that I am not white or black but I am mixed with both.

That was the issue for the civil war. Not for the field hands because there was machinery that could be used for that. The problem was that they were going to tear apart the family structure.

Seems like common sense to me.
