  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Harris campaign adopts "Weird" as their criticism towards Trump/Vance

The “weird” message appears to have given Democrats a narrative advantage that they rarely had when President Joe Biden was still running for reelection. Trump’s campaign, which so often shapes political discussions with the former president’s pronouncements, has spent days trying to flip the script by highlighting things about Democrats it says are weird.
“I don’t know who came up with the message, but I salute them,” said David Karpf, a strategic communication professor at George Washington University.
My response is incredulity. Think bout it. These are the people calling them Weird

VS someone like JD Vance who grew up in poverty in Appalachia, served in Iraq as a Marine - graduated top of his class from Yale and is married with two biracial children.

to them - this is a picture of weird

Two kids? Hey, then he and his wife might get 4 votes.
Nah - all us weird people will probably see the truth of the matter.....

The truth of the matter is that Vance would like that to be done:

'Let's give votes to all children in this country but let's give control over those votes to the parents of those children.' JD Vance Says Parents Should Have Bigger Say in Democracy Than Non-Parents. Here's the Context

So that's the truth. And yeah, it's weird. But I guess it's too late now. Trump is stuck with him.
Difference of opinion (and I disagree with his) is not weird - it's called free speech - what he fought for in Iraq and I personally believe in.

Well, yeah. Anyone is, within reason, free to say what they believe. But 'Hey, he fought in Iraq, so he can say that' cannot be used as a means to excuse someone for saying something so patently undemocratic as that.

Look, this tendency to support whatever one's preferred candidate says, irrespective of what is said, needs to stop. There has been no-one that I have voted for, ever since I was old enough to vote, that had policies with which I agreed 100%. It's just not possible. There is always a bone of contention somewhere. You vote for someone if the balance of policies are ones with which you agree.

So if Vance says something patently absurd about adding votes for people with children and reducing the voter power of people without children, then call him out on it.

Is Middltetown Ohio really in the heart of Appalachia? Do the people featured in your OP really have anything to do with the Harris campaign or are they just people you like to mock for being "weird"?

Do you know anything of JD Vance's history?

I didn't say they had anything to do with her campaign - I'd suggest reading the link

In case you weren't aware, almost everything south of Canton is considered the south.

No, not aware - Appalachia is not necessarily south nor is south mostly Appalachia. One particularly nice things about the Palisades Parkway in New Jersey and New York is the easy access for dog walkers to the Appalachian Trail.
