J.D. Vance: Women who have not given birth, such as Kamala Harris, are “childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives,”

Agreed. Lot of people are US-centric, sadly.
This reminds me of an old joke:

Q: What do you call someone who speaks many languages?
A: Multilingual

Q: What do you call someone who speaks two languages?
A: Bilingual

Q: What do you call someone who speaks only one language?
A: American

I remember this joke. It is a classic, and really good. :)

I saw that video with context. I had to agree with him.
Then I hope he, and you, and others who agree with you, continue to say it. Please. I'm asking nicely.

I think the point is that people that don't have kids, by the time they reach middle age, are less prone to by mindful of the future past their lifespan. Key word, "less". Some are driven to help mankind, kinda like the Apostle Paul. but still...
How about one though not critize a particular persons childlessness?

Because you don't know why they are?

I would point out that Vance seems to argue that not having kids should disqualify you from office. Is that fair or even Biblical?

I would point that raising kids is hard and takes work and look at all the problems some politician kids have.

Angela Merkel had no kids but was an effective Chancelor.

I don't think that is what he meant. I think he was saying there is a certain thought process involved, and in his opinion that is not a good leadership quality.

Once again he brought specific people without knowing them or their mentality. Pete was actively trying to have children.

He doesn't know why Kamala never had a biological children. Maybe she wanted kids but couldn't find the right guy. She has stepkids who adore her.

Apparently nieces and nephews and godkids too.

Was the apostle Paul a bad leader?

Just because you don't have biological kids doesn't mean you don't have family.

No need. The point is made.
Well, rest assured that ol' JD will be hearing it a lot over the next few weeks. By people making a point.

I mean, what on earth convinced Trump to pick him? Seriously, it's perhaps a worse choice than Palin was.

You don't need to be a parent to be a good leader and given the populace we can argue the skill isn't automatically bestowed with conception. Some of the worst failures we've encountered in society happen in the home.

IIRC, he made his comments before Buttigieg adopted.

Either way, it’s a garbage take that belies some really twisted thinking.
No it's that anything he says has to be billed as ultra twisted and mega evil because that's how the other side operates. He's Hitler. He's Satan. He wants to destroy the world. The usual.

Nonetheless that's been the overall sentiment towards Trump and anyone on his staff and his supporters. Way over the top over exaggerated hyperbole. He's victimized and ruined women with cats.

Yeah, I’m sure it’s much easier to make a caricature of the other side than actually explain why they’re wrong.

I already did that. I explained what he most likely actually meant looking at it objectively. As opposed to the hyperbolic spin that he's viciously attacking and victimizing women, lgbtq, people with cats, people without kids, ete etc.

It's true of me for the most part. Since I don't have kids and grandkids, I often don't take the future of their generations into consideration. I mostly just think ahead to how the next ten to twenty years is going to affect me personally.

In an undelivered draft of his first inaugural address, George Washington wrote that his lack of biological children would benefit the country.

“Divine Providence hath not seen fit, that my blood should be transmitted or my name perpetuated by the endearing, though sometimes seducing channel of immediate offspring,” the first U.S. president had considered including in the April 30, 1789, speech. “I have no child for whom I could wish to make a provision — no family to build in greatness upon my Country’s ruins.”

“He was almost using it as a way to reassure the American people and demonstrate that he was a safe person to trust with that type of authority,” [Lindsay Chervinsky, executive director of the George Washington Presidential Library] said.

--

Of course, at the time, probably the concern he was rhetorically addressing was the threat of the presidency becoming a monarchy. That a president would prefer his children, perhaps advance them in positions in government, to position them as successors [I'm looking at you, John Adams!].

Well, I have kids, so I'm only speculating. Then again, a person without kids that has seen legalizing abortion as their litmus test in political elections, well, as we age we become the person we were working towards our whole life. I believe that such a narcissistic focus can only make a childless single person all the more bitter by middle age. i.e. I believe it's an accurate stereotype. However, I also believe that human beings are all unique, and when dealing with individuals I'll take them at face value.

Characterizing people that are pro-choice as narcissistic is off the mark.

My aunt and uncle never had children. My aunt is very involved in her church (Methodist), and she has never been a bitter person. She just didn't desire to have kids of her own.

I never had children, either, and I don't see myself as a bitter person.
