I was appalled that the R's fielded McCain and then Romney as their presidential candidates. I think they thought that they needed to cater to the middle. But what happened is the base didn't bother to vote or they wrote someone in. I see both men as basically democrats in republican clothing.
Romney is not perfect, but he might bring the party closer to the center. Yeah, the voter base did not care to vote sadly. Politics has been a mess for 10 years or so.

One guy a couple of years ago put it really well: Back in the day the D's and R's agreed on the desired outcome. They only disagreed on how to get there. Now they don't agree on the outcome.

And to add to that, the D's won in a lot of areas and we saw their desired outcomes. A lot of Americans are saying, "um, we don't want more of that".
Which guy made this quote? It is a good quote. If only we can go back to the pre-2010s days again.

This Henry Cuellar? Seriously?

Federal Indictment
Dang, he accepted bribes from Big Oil from Azerbaijan and a Mexican bank? That is sickening. Thank you for enlightening me on this. I take back the positive stuff I have said about Henry Cuellar.

Fake digital "currency" :eyeroll:

Are you attempting to trash their credibility with failed predictions?

I don't need to crash their credibility. Powell admitted they've been working on digital currency since the early nineties. The video is on YouTube.

The one thing about the democrats is they brutally punish those that don't toe the party line. i.e. he doesn't stand a chance on the national stage. Maybe in a strongly conservative state he could become a representative, but the Republican would probably win.
That's what happened to everyone else who ran against Biden. They could have said, "You're okay, but not this year" to three or four of the candidates, but they are too ideologically bound to be that intelligent.

AOC has released an Instagram post where, from her viewpoint as an insider POC, suggests there will be a fight against Harris behind closed doors. I think Harris will ultimately float to the top of that tempest-in-a-toilet if only because she has access to Biden's war chest than nobody else can have...and time is too short for anyone else to build up that much money.

I think there is something in that. However, she appears to be a very popular choice withing the Democratic Party.

I shall be watching this with intense interest, along with many foreigners. The presidency is globally important.

Well said, young man!

If only others would be so honest about their mistakes!
Thank you, brother. If I am not informed, and someone corrects me with new information, I apologize for my mistakes. And yes, I do wish everyone could own up to their own mistakes, cos I need to do that more. :)

There is an old proverb straight from the Bible about owning up to mistakes.

Proverbs 28:13 (NIV): "Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy."

Well, there was nothing sinful about your post.

I found this:

I think it would be a mistake to under-estimate Ms Harris.

"They" in my post was the Economist making dumb global currency claims in *1988*. That prediction sure came true (not!).

I could try her, and yes, my post praising Henry Cuellar was an honest mistake. Kamala Harris could work, though I will have to weigh my options in November. With how quickly the political landscape has changed this month, who knows what will happen over the next few months. As a Catholic, I would like to vote for someone who is a little more pro-life, but as we are a free country, folks can choose who to vote for. If atheists want to get an abortion, it would be pretty hard to stop them, but Christian politicians might want to focus on a pro-life platform (except for emergencies, incest and rape).

This is a little frightening for Kamala, a Christian (Baptist) to say:

Why would you expect a non-Catholic politician to follow Catholic doctrine?

Yeah, I see your point. Though, most Baptists are pro-life, according to Pew, as in 1996, the Southern Baptist Convention affirmed a pro-life stance (except in extreme cases), so one would think Kamala would follow what the SBC says, or what the Bible says about protecting human life.

Correct . But the excitement for her is growing. I was listening to commentary the other day that there was a lot of excitement at the idea and that there are many Dems who were not so excited about the race got enthused at the idea of it .
This would be true. Many Dems are more encouraged now. But can they pull this off though. Biden picked Harris to begin with to appeal to the extreme left. I think it's a pretty big hill to climb to believe she can be a moderate that can appeal to the overall feeling of the country.

I would agree with the first part if I was neutral in this thing, but I have to say that no, I don't think it makes sense. The Democrats, for the last several decades have doubled down on turning left. That's why they are finally losing people in droves. It just got more and more stupid until enough people snapped out of the spell. They may not vote republican, but a lot of them certainly cannot bring themselves to vote for the "we don't know what a woman is" party. And that doesn't even get into the ACTUAL government policy fails like the border, inflation, etc. As Reagan asked, Are you better off now than you were four years ago? I actually am, because I retired. And because I live on 32 private acres in rural Kentucky, the risk of anything going on right now affecting my wife and me is very low. And as my brother in law said, when he toured the property a few years ago, "this could be a compound". The two streams seal the deal. Nothing is guaranteed, but we could support all our children and grandchildren here if it came to that. But I highly doubt it will.

So we just enjoy it as our own little garden of eden. This is the view mowing my 9 acre lawn last week - driveway on the right. And the property is worth 1/3 the price of a 60 year old 3 bedroom rambler on a small lot in the Seattle exurbs (i.e. I'm not rich, that's why I'm mowing my own lawn), and the RE taxes reflect that:

Yeah, the Democrats and Republicans were halfway decent parties 10-20 years ago, but that has all changed over the past decade. It makes me want to vote for Peter Sonski, or even that Henry Cuellar guy to bring America back to the center. It seems that sometimes, it is best to shut the news down, and avoid politics, and enjoy God's creation of the outdoors. I live in a medium sized city, but used to live in a rural area. Both types of population density have strengths and weaknesses. Younger politicians might help also.

Also, beautiful scenery. I'd buy a robotic mower, so one would not have to mow that 9 acre (3.64 hectare) yard.
I think it might be one reason Trump picked Vance. He is new to politics. He has not been up high enough long enough to be corrupted...

again, she's not a southern baptist, a denomination centered on white southerners, of which she is neither.

According to her wiki page, her church is part of this:

American Baptist Churches USA - Wikipedia

I have no idea what their position is on abortion, as I have no need to know the positions of every last protestant denomination on every topic. (And I just don't care).

That's not even funny. Vance has his own personal oligarch (Peter Thiel).
