As a former soldier I had to ask myself what kind of conflicts I would be prepared to get involved in. I had to learn drill, to obey orders, and do all the things you HAVE to do or people around you die.

We rehearsed basic moves again and again and again. We would be jogging and our Corporal would yell "Contact!" and the whole platoon would yell "RUN DOWN CRAWL OBSERVE AIM FIRE!" Again and again - until I heard it in my dreams.

The Secret Service agents have their own drill - and the President is meant to follow the same drill. The creator of this next meme thinks it shows how awesome Trump is. Let me set them straight.

Shots were fired from a rifle - so he pauses long enough for MORE SHOTS to be fired from cameras!

Except, we have a live contact! More rounds could be coming down range. They should have been out of there by then! Follow the drill!

Trump wasn't just risking his own life - but the lives of the agents around him. Yeah - what a hero - he can punch the air and let the agents pay with their lives for this photo shoot opportunity! If I were an agent in that situation I would be tempted to quote Trump's lines about NATO members struggling to pay 2%.

"You don't want to obey the drill - you delinquent? No I will not protect you and in fact I will encourage them to do whatever the h.... they want!"

And stand back and let whatever happens, happen!
Hey - it's only fair. He said this about whole countries who would not pay - potentially encouraging major new wars.
It's only fair if he cannot even obey the drill.

Apparently, the Secret Service identified Crooks as a threat 62 minutes before the first shots were fired and saw him on the roof of the building 20 minutes before shots were fired. That's pretty inexcusable. Clearly they had plenty of time to intervene and stop ANY shots from being fired. But they did not. It will be interesting to hear their justification for why.

Now you are ranting. I agreed with him in 2018 when he wanted NATO to increase military spending. Maybe Ukraine would be better off if NATO had stockpiles of armaments during Russia's advance.

It's an interesting speculation. Unfortunately, we will never know for sure, because the communications of the Secret Service team involved were illegally erased right after. It was Pence's finest moment: "I'm not getting in that car." He refused to get into a car with a strange SS team to be taken to an undisclosed location. He stayed and did his duty.

That's an interesting juxtaposition. The premise of the OP is that Trump should be condemned for disobeying Secret Service orders, but here Pence is lauded for disobeying their orders.

All this time, the SS is holding Trump to the ground. They had him to the ground for a full minute. 37 seconds after the shooter was reported down.
The criticism is not valid.
Even so... the man was just shot. Bullets whizzing past his head. I would be terrified. Any normal person would be. You do not think in such a situation. Give the guy a break.

You may be right. All I really know about it is what Pence himself had to say about it. The only way to disprove it would be with Secret Service communication records of the event, which have mysteriously disappeared.

Excuse me there was about 26 minutes after the shooter was spotted and was known he was armed .... and they did nothing to eliminate the threat ... that is very telling ... either total incompetence or intentionally turning a blind eye.

I don't know where you get your info from .... but there was a lot of "heads up" that happened hours before the incident.

The point I was making, though, is the Secret Service sniper did not have an armed man in his sights for 20 minutes....
