At NYU my friend invited me to her family ranch
in Wyoming. What experiences for a half pint city girl!

Anyway- a thing of interest was how the men talk.

Didn't say much but when they did, it was like
so much compressed into a few words, you could spend the next day unpacking it

What a contrast.
I worked for a Japanese company (Toyota) and things invariably got lost in translation.
Back in the days before emails became popular and faxes were in vogue, I received one from Head Office in Japan which was difficult to read as there were smudges in the print.
My fax to Japan which essentially said “Please resend fax as there are smudges in the print” was translated into Japanese as something like “I resent you as I have grudges”.
Their response was “We are sorry to have offended you, can you please tell us why?”

When technical terms were involved it became very complicated, I received an email from one of the Engine Design groups with a formulation for a fuel contamination test which had the mysterious ingredient “steering sodium” which they were adamant was the correct translation.
After racking my brain it finally dawned on me they were referring to the chemical “sodium stearate” which all parties eventually agreed upon was the correct translation.

Fortunately the quality of technical translations improved considerably over time.

Yes, AI has come a long way. Musk was afraid to develop it but Bill Gates was not afraid to invest in AI. Google is dragging their feet a in this also. But a little bit of something is better than nothing.

The technical translation issues predated AI and even to this day I would be very reluctant to rely on AI to translate highly technical documents.

The problem that existed at the time involved bureaucratic red tape, I could not communicate directly with my counterparts in Japan but had to go through an intermediate Toyota division which vetted communications in both directions and handled English-Japanese and Japanese–English translations.
I think they were paranoid that know how protection could be lost to competitors.

Things changed when TMCA, Toyota’s Australian manufacturing wing began solving technical issues which Toyota Japan could not.
This required direct communication between myself and my Japanese counterparts whose knowledge of English was far superior to my knowledge of Japanese and the technical translation issues largely disappeared.

I did when we were talking about how difficult it is to get into some universities.
You seem to bounce around a lot. Son became aunt. BC became harvard. (I traced back the chain of replies. No harvard.)
Actually my Biology teacher was a harvard graduate.
Whatever. Who cares about HS?
I think he was looking for a real challenge and figured out we would be that challenge. Some people thrive off of the difficult. Just like I said my History teacher was a holocaust survivor. You would be amazed at the perspective of people that survive something like that.

So when I talk about History and Science I can assure you I had the best of teachers to get me started with my studies.
I hope you history is better than your science. It hasn't been impressive yet.

You seem to bounce around a lot.
Let me tell you a story. I was in a coma for week in the hospital. When I came out of it the doctor said I jumped around a lot and they wanted to send me to therapy. My brother said I have always been that way so they sent me home. In my brain things connect that other people do not see the connection. There are 100 trillion neuron connections in the brain. Although the biggest mystery to science is consciousness.

Actually my history is better than science compared to most people. They tend to study science a lot more than history. I am not even aware of an ancient history class in the public school system. For the most part their history is revisionism. I actually have two friends that teach history on a college level. So we talk about revisionism and stuff like that.

I have a short attention span and I ignore long posts. So I tend to keep it short and simple as I can. I see no advantage to going on and on with a lot of jibber jabber nonsense. I do understand it would take a book to answer a lot of the questions on her.

No-one is expecting you to write out a book's worth for a response. Just stop quoting people out of context and actually make the real effort to respond properly.

Exactly, I am glad you understand my point on how we need to be concise in our responses.

Please quote me in full next time, as you missed/ignored the rest of what I said:

Was this an effort to prove my point? (It is also off topic, and I don't care.)

We'll see, it does not seem to be a high bar to cross.
They tend to study science a lot more than history. I am not even aware of an ancient history class in the public school system.
I had world history twice (in 8th grade and in HS at different schools) and both times we covered ancient history (at least 1 quarter of the year each time). Every 8th grader in my town took that class for years (at least).

For the most part their history is revisionism. I actually have two friends that teach history on a college level. So we talk about revisionism and stuff like that.

For us the teacher was a lot more interested in Egypt than Mesopotamia. So I study a lot on my own. With the water level down on the Euphrates river that is some interesting archeology starting to emerge. Archeology is a lot more dangerous now than what it was 100 years ago. Esp it is not good to take students in to do the work like they use to do.

Good point.

They'd probably drown themselves, looking for Pharaoh's footprints.

According to your profile you were in HS about 55 years ago, either you "studied" a lot on your own, or HS is irrelevant.

You're just leaping from thought to thought aren't you?

Well, if you live in California, here's what you'll need:

One Day Field Trip - Requirements
Overnight Field Trip - Requirements
Out of State/Country Field Trip - Requirements
Back to Ed. Services

TIMELINE

8+ WEEKS PRIOR

Make all travel arrangements.
Start the Board approval process.
Begin fundraising after you've received formal approval from our Board of Trustees.
Alert the Health Services Assistant (HSA) of the field trip.
Alert the District Nurses at least 8 weeks prior to ensure coverage if a student with medical needs will require authorized personnel to accompany them if the parent is unable to attend the trip.

6+ WEEKS PRIOR

Complete the Field Trip Authorization Form.
Complete all School Board approval forms, even if the trip is tentative.
Secure an adequate number of chaperones for supervision.
Hold initial meeting/orientation with chaperones.

TWO WEEKS PRIOR

Verify with the Principal if a substitute is needed.
Put absence in the absence management system.
Health clerks will review all students and copy all health forms for the trip.
Make arrangements with District Nurses for the lead teacher to be trained if any student(s) requires glucagon, inhalers, and/or Epi Pens.
Complete Permission Slip and Medical Authorization forms for each participant.
Order bag lunches from Child Nutrition Services.
Ensure all chaperones/volunteers have been approved through the Volunteer Management System, including driver's clearance if applicable.
Hold a follow-up meeting with chaperones.

ONE WEEK PRIOR

Submit all forms to the Principal (Check-off list for Field Trips).
Confirm bag lunch count with Child Nutrition Services.
Communicate with all chaperones to ensure coverage, etc.

PRIOR TO DEPARTURE

Provide a roster to the office staff.
Provide copies of all Permission Slips and Medical Authorization forms to the office staff.
Pick up field trip medications and forms from the HSA on the morning of the field trip. Medications must be signed out on the tracking document.
Medications in pharmacy/original over-the-counter labeled containers.
Medication Administration Consent forms.
Specialized Physical Health Care Procedures Forms, if applicable.
Student Action Plans, if applicable.
Brief students on safety procedures for the trip.
Ensure each group/chaperone has a copy of the Permission Slips.
Ensure each group/chaperone is in possession of a First Aid Kit.
Ensure bag lunches are on board.

UPON RETURN FROM FIELD TRIP

As soon as the trip is over, medications must be returned to the HSA and signed back in on the tracking document.

APPROVAL PROCESS

Principal
Educational Services Department
Board of Trustees

FORMS REQUIRED

Field Trip Authorization Form
Check-off List for Field Trips
K-8 Permission Slip and Medical Authorization
9-12 Permission Slip and Medical Authorization
Volunteer Driver and Medical Release Form
Field Trip Leader Certification
Field Trip Volunteer Information Form
Field Trip Template for Board Approval
Field Trip Code of Conduct Form for Staff/Chaperones & Signature Forms

*Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services may review field trips that cannot meet the necessary timelines. These will be the exception and not an ongoing practice as our Board policy clearly states the Board requires pre-approval for all overnight and out-of-state school-sponsored trips. If there is a possibility that a student/group of students may qualify for a competition, event, or trip, get pre-approval with tentative dates. This can also be done at the beginning of the school year for possible regional or state competitions with dates TBD if students qualify.

OTHER FORMS

The following documents may also be needed, depending on the type of transportation used, risk assessment, and for staff reference:

High Risk/Prohibited Activities
*District Van Use Request Form July 2022 through Dec 2023

I would like to see if there is anything under the Persian Gulf. I even had my son design a underwater drone camera. You can get them pretty cheap on Amazon now. The reviews say the photos are good but the range on the wifi is limited to 50 feet. They use them to photograph the Titanic.

We do not know that much more today than we did back then. I still have the book. I think it was published in 1931. The teacher lived to be 100. He was one of those very stern guys with a heart of gold. He was the principal of the school for about 30 years. Ludwig was his name.

If that's your thing, great.

But I'd be wary of specifically looking for evidence of the crossing of the Red Sea.

Anything you might find -- no matter how small it is -- could be construed as valid.

Even if it's not.

I think it's called confirmation bias.

I do not need confirmation. The rocks talk to me and tell me how old they are. Luke 19 40 “I tell you,” He answered, “if they remain silent, the very stones will cry out.” They do not cry out to you to tell you how old the earth is? Romans 1 20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. We can study creation for ourselves. We do not need anyone to do that for us.
