They're doing this to 4 year olds.

22 is reasonable, as an adult should be mature enough to make such decisions, but young children are at the mercy of their parents and teachers. This is child abuse any way you cut it. (no pun intended)

If a 4 year old boy's genitals are mutilated to turn him into a trans girl, that 4 year old will probably mature into a trans woman who is attracted to women. As the odds are high that he would otherwise have been a heterosexual man. Most people are straight and 4 years old is too young to determine whether someone will be gay. In that sense, it might make him gay by appearances but not by making him attracted to men.

I generally avoid these topics as it's none of my business what other adults do with their bodies, but as this pertains to young children it has "future lawsuits" written all over it.

My guess would be that four years ago a baby with “ambiguous genitalia“ was born and the parents were allowed to wait until the child’s personality developed before proceeding with treatments/surgery.

Doing what exactly as the article does not state what services are offered. It just states there are patients as young as 4, but it does not state what services are being provided. I do not care to assume what services are offered on what tiny amount is said in the article.

True. We don't know exactly. The thought crossed my mind, but there is already an established precedent for dealing with ambiguous genitalia. As far as I'm aware, special gender identity clinics aren't required for that. It seems odd to me that they wouldn't make that distinction in the article, but perhaps the author left it out intentionally.

There are those who encourage minors to transition despite the fact that we don't know what the long term effects on children might be. We don't have enough data yet. Also, far less consequential decisions made by guardians can mess kids up. That's the angle I'm coming at this from. Unfortunately, humanity has a history of performing medical procedures that are later deemed barbaric. Lobotomies, for instance, were once considered an appropriate therapy for mental illness, racial minorities were sterilized in the name of eugenics etc. Things that seemed like a good idea at the time to the people in charge.

The article doesn’t state what treatments are provided at any age. For whatever reason a four year old is seen at the clinic, I feel certain that it is not for genital reassignment surgery.

As far as the child being gay or not, well that is separate from their gender identity issues. you are right that their attraction to male or female doesn’t change, so after transition they can end up living as a gay person, but in truth that is what they felt they were before transition. A male transitioning to a female who was always attracted to females felt they were in fact a female but in a male’s body.
