  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Er, it says that 87% of aborted children have unmarried parents, not that 87% of unmarried people have abortions. These are two different things.
IE - these little babies HAVE PARENTS who abort them.

If you are not understanding that, I beg to differ.

I mean I get what Zippy's point is. Like 87% of unwed people having abortions would mean 87% of all the women in America who aren't married are having an abortion, while the flip side is that 87% of aborted children's parents aren't married. It's just a wording thing but it has pretty significant implications.

Right. One abortion correlates to one woman (with some rare exceptions of twins and whatnot). Therefore "The vast majority of women who had abortions in 2021 were unmarried (87%)" (Pew Research). But it does not follow that 87% of unmarried "people," or really women, have abortions.

So in 2021 403,553 unmarried women had abortions (link), which made up 87% of abortions. In 2022 57.33/137.26 million women were unmarried,* excepting widows, which is 41.77% of women (link). So if we apply that 403,553 number from 2021 to 2022, then 0.7% of unmarried women had an abortion in 2022. The title of this thread is enormously false: rather than 87% of unmarried women having abortions, the truth is that less than 1% of unmarried women have abortions.

* That is, 57.33 million women were either never married, or else divorced as of 2022. Their marital status was unmarried.

This leads to another question, "Why is it that unmarried women are more likely to have abortions? Social stigma? Economics? Inconvenience?

Can’t afford a baby now 73%

I don't find it odd at all. Children and marriage go hand in hand. So the answer is, "All of the above," including the crucial factor of unexpected pregnancies.

FWIW - although many are fornicating - not all women are. Some are celibate. And some are sterile. Some are on sterilizing contraceptives.
OF all abortions of the unwed - 87% are aborting.
9 in 10 basically.

@WarriorAngel the title of your thread says, "87% of unwed people have abortions." This is a false claim. As I showed, less than 1% of unmarried women have abortions. I would strongly suggest editing the misleading title of your thread.

If you click the three dots ("...") near the title of your thread and then select "Edit thread" you can change the title of your thread. I think you are trying to say what your article says, "87% of children who are killed via abortion have unmarried parents."

More harm from the sexual revolution. Very sad, indeed.
