I don't think Adam and Eve had needles and thread at this time. They could have used the stems of the fig leaves to bind them into a makeshift covering.


Amplified Bible:

they fastened fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.

It was an ineffective covering. Then, God provided:

21 The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them.

This is the word: וַֽיִּתְפְּרוּ֙ Every letter has a meaninוַיַּלְבִּשֵֽׁם׃ g and you have a lot of letters to work with.

Sowing needles goes back 50,000 years long before Adam and Eve. It is difficult to see what clothing they wore because it is so thin and does not hold up well over the years.

When we read He clothed them, וַיַּלְבִּשֵֽׁם׃ is another word with lots of letters and each letter has meaning.

The oldest known sewing needle was found in a cave in Siberia. It's about 50,000 years old and was made by Denisovans, not Homo sapiens. It's made from a bird bone. I have a fair amount of research on this.

There are lots of fibrous plant materials that could have been used. Like the types used to weave baskets together.
