A magistrate judge at the Rocky River Municipal Court observed that Ellis seemingly became unresponsive during her hearing and ordered her to be held for a mental health evaluation, according to records obtained by Fox 8. Hagan, however, released Ellis back into the community on May 31. . .
Hagan revealed he would not have acted differently, even now, knowing that Ellis is charged with aggravated murder for the toddler’s death.

This example illustrates the difference between the woke approach to crime and the conservative (common sense) approach to crime. Conservatives insist there should be serious thought given to protecting society. When you vote for a liberal judge or politician this is what you get.

The judge in question has been on the court since 2007, and does not appear to be especially liberal based on his credentials:

Gosh... I wonder why Americans are so divided?

Oh. I see.

The woman in question was initially arrested for a parole violation over a misdemeanor theft charge. What initiated the arrest was cops checking up on her as she was sitting in a wheelchair and then learning she had an outstanding warrant. She wasn't out doing anything nefarious (as far as I can ascertain).

Apparently the "conservative (common sense)" approach is just to keep everybody in jail forever.

It's because conservatives all have the gift of "discernment". They can just tell who's bad and who's righteous. So I've heard.

Yep - they removed Aunt Jemima - but the products still contain all the stuff that is killing us.

They just virtue signal and don't really care about anything but their image.

What should the judge have done in this case? She (as far as I can tell) wasn't doing anything at the time of her arrest, which was for a warrant related to misdemeanor theft. She was held for two days. I don't know why she didn't get the psych eval that was requested, but I haven't seen anything to suggest that she posed a thread at the time of her arrest.

Donald Trump has stolen and cheated people out of a lot more than $69 in his life and he's been convicted of felonies - but heck, even if we only treat them as misdemeanors as some argue, should we hold him indefinitely because he could potentially stab somebody?

Perhaps actually following through on the mental evaluation that he ordered?

If a judge ordered a mental evaluation on Trump - I would expect it to happen.

She violated her parole and during her hearing acted in a way that the judge felt it best to cancel the hearing and have her mentally evaluated - yet released her without that evaluation.

So - why did he release her without doing what he claimed they needed to do before she could proceed with her hearing?

From what I read, the symptoms she exhibited during her hearing was that she was unresponsive, not that she was violent.

I’m not saying that this was handled perfectly, but I don’t know how you look at someone who’s loopy and guess that they’re going to murder a kid in a few days.

To be clear - I am not claiming that the judge knew she was violent or anything - only that if he never planned on having her evaluated - why stop the hearing and release her?

He saw that something was obviously wrong - enough to forestall her hearing - so why not follow through?

It's just bizarre and displays - at least to me - a dereliction of duty or at least a callousness toward her and possibly others.
