God's rod can be the most ungodly nation. Assyria was a most pagan and violent nation, and yet the LORD used them to judge Israel.
Isaiah 10:5-6 & 24,
"O Assyrian, the rod of mine anger, and the staff in their hand is mine indignation.
I will send him against an hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets."
"Therefore thus saith the Lord God of hosts, O my people that dwellest in Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrian: he shall smite thee with a rod, and shall lift up his staff against thee, after the manner of Egypt."
Look back to Isaiah 8:7, "Now therefore, behold, the Lord bringeth up upon them the waters of the river, strong and many, even the king of Assyria, and all his glory: and he shall come up over all his channels, and go over all his banks"
Psalm 17:13-14 says this:
"Arise, O LORD, disappoint him, cast him down: deliver my soul from the wicked, which is thy sword: From men which are thy hand, O LORD, from men of the world..."
Babylon was also used by the LORD Yahweh to chastise Israel, and to bring them into captivity for 70 years so that the land could enjoy her Sabbaths, for they had not kept the Sabbaths of the land. Also in bringing Judah into into captivity, most likely Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon was saved as Daniel 3:18-4:3, and 4:28-37 describe how he came to honor the LORD.
Ezekiel 21:18-19,
"The word of the LORD came unto me again, saying, Also, thou son of man, appoint thee two ways, that the sword of the king of Babylon may come..."
Jeremiah 51:7,
"Babylon hath been a golden cup in the LORD's hand, that made all the earth drunken: the nations have drunken of her wine; therefore the nations are mad"
Jeremiah 43:10 - Babylon is used by God to judge Egypt, and it is clear here that God's sovereignty is at play: "Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will send and take Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will set his throne upon these stones that I have hid; and he shall spread his royal pavilion over them."
God also raised up Cyrus the Persian and called him by name in Isaiah 44:28- 45:3, "That saith of Cyrus, He is my shepherd, and shall perform all my pleasure: even saying to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be built; and to the temple, Thy foundation shall be laid. Thus saith the LORD to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have holden, to subdue nations before him; and I will loose the loins of kings, to open before him the two leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut;
I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron:
And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the LORD, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel.
Sure enough, after King Nebuchadnezzar died, a wicked KIng, Belshazzar ruled, and mocked God by using the temple vessels to drink in. They brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which was at Jerusalem; and the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, drank in them. They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone." (Daniel 5:3-4)
"And "In that night was Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans slain. And Darius the Median took the kingdom" (Daniel 5:30-31) - Cyrus and Darius ruled Media-Persia together, and some even think they were the same person.
Now do you not think God has raised up the Kim family in North Korea, and Vladimir Putin in Russia, and Xi JinPing in China, and the Ayatollahs of Iran to be His rod and scourge today? Even Hamas was raised up, and like the days of old when Israel rebelled, they chastised Israel and specifically the revelers at the Rave party who mocked the holy Sabbath and feast of Tabernacles by their dancing, and drugging, and evil music. About 1/3 of the people killed on October 7, 2023 were at that Rave party.
Of Egypt the LORD told Abraham, "Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years; And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge"
(Genesis 15:13-14)
It was said of Pharaoh also, "For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth." (Romans 9:17)
This principle has not changed.
Nebuchadnezzar spoke these words, and they ring true, "And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?" (Daniel 4:35)
Psalm 75:7, "But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another."
And Daniel 2:21 echos the Psalmist, "he removeth kings, and setteth up kings"
It doesn't matter how our correct President got in office; the fact is he did. God's sovereignty is at play there. He gave the people what they wanted just like He gave Israel a King when they refused to be ruled by the LORD alone, and clamoured for a King like the rest of the nations, so they got Saul. And what will happen in 2024 will be God's choice ultimately.
Don't be deceived into thinking God cannot or will not judge America from within, and from without. That is why I say from a Biblical perspective, it would not take a Russia or China to nuke the U.S. It could just as easily be North Korea or Iran. I even feel that is more likely.
Read all of Joshua 7. I will share this portion, verses 2 - 5, "Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is beside Bethaven, on the east of Bethel, and spake unto them, saying, Go up and view the country. And the men went up and viewed Ai.
And they returned to Joshua, and said unto him, Let not all the people go up; but let about two or three thousand men go up and smite Ai; and make not all the people to labour thither; for they are but few.
So there went up thither of the people about three thousand men: and they fled before the men of Ai.
And the men of Ai smote of them about thirty and six men: for they chased them from before the gate even unto Shebarim, and smote them in the going down: wherefore the hearts of the people melted, and became as water."
Why did this happen? It had nothing to do with who had the more powerful army, or best weaponry. It all had to do with "the children of Israel committed a trespass in the accursed thing: for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took of the accursed thing: and the anger of the LORD was kindled against the children of Israel." (Joshua 7:1)
Now look at verses 12 & 13, "Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they were accursed: neither will I be with you any more, except ye destroy the accursed from among you. Up, sanctify the people, and say, Sanctify yourselves against to morrow: for thus saith the LORD God of Israel, There is an accursed thing in the midst of thee, O Israel: thou canst not stand before thine enemies, until ye take away the accursed thing from among you."
One man took of the accursed thing, and Israel was defeated. Later, they destroyed the accursed thing and judged Achan, and then were successful in battle. But America is harboring the accursed thing: MANY accursed things, and the day will come she will not be able to stand before her enemies because of the accused things in her midst! Fornication and adultery, and homosexuality, and transgender are all accursed things, and they have been brought into many churches across the land. Abortion is still as rampant as it was before Roe being overturned. Violence in the streets. Shootings all the time. Drunkenness, and sorcery in both the occult and drug use.
Shall America stand in such a condition? She has claimed to be a Christian nation, or rather, a nation with many Christians, and has done many wonderful works, but at the same time the wickedness of the wicked has been allowed to flourish, and most preachers speak not against it, and the word of the prophet is almost unknown, and falls on many deaf ears.
"Though Babylon should mount up to heaven, and though she should fortify the height of her strength, yet from me shall spoilers come unto her, saith the LORD."
(Jeremiah 51:53)
"Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies." (Revelation 18:2-3)
It doesn't matter if you believe America is Babylon, or something else is Babylon - many still believe the Vatican & Rome is Babylon, others think ancient Babylon will be rebuilt (tHough that goes against scripture that says it won't be rebuilt)
The truth is as a type, Babylon today would be any superpower that had been "a golden cup in the LORDs hand"
Considering these things, should we not cry out to Almighty God for mercy through Jesus Christ for salvation and sanctification?
