Supreme Court justices have received nearly $5 million in gifts since the early 2000s, and one justice in particular, Justice Clarence Thomas, accounts for nearly all of it.​

Data released Thursday by watchdog group Fix the Court unveils a list of gifts justices have received since January 2004. The dataset was released ahead of an expected release of the justices’ financial disclosure reports Friday.​

Thomas, nominated to the high court by former President George H.W. Bush, made headlines last year after an investigation found he had taken dozens of trips paid for by separate billionaire friends.​

According to the data compiled by Fix the Court, since 2004, Thomas has accepted $4,042,286, or 193 gifts. The group reported that, for Thomas, there’s an additional 126 “likely but not confirmed gifts.”​

Of the nearly 200 gifts, the group said Thomas only reported 27 of the gifts on his financial disclosures.​

When I worked for a Navy contractor many years ago we couldn't even take any of the military personnel we were working with out and pay for their lunch without violating our contracts. This is so transparently unethical and it's so obvious what is going on here and there's nothing that can be done about it? Ridiculous.

Scalia received the second-highest total in gifts, with $210,164 from Jan. 2004 to his death in 2016.

I'm often surprised at how low the amounts are when people get busted for bribery. Richard Hanssen got paid $1.4 million over 22 years. He could've taken a consulting job and made that.

How many votes to impeach a Supreme Court judge?

A conviction requires a two-thirds vote in the Senate. The individual may or may not then stand trial in a criminal court as well, before a jury of his peers.

It would need to go to trial to be officially proven ... if the "evidence" is so overwhelming .. then why isn't that done? Maybe it will in the future .... who knows? If true ...it possibly could be proven more than unethical (bribery) ... but that would be extremely difficult to prove.

Who knows? A lot of things get brought out ... overall not much done about it usually.

Thomas accepted $4 million but only reported $2 million. For all the fuss over Alito refusing to recuse himself, Thomas is far worse imo because, besides these bribes gifts, his wife was a direct participant in the insurrection plot.

Senate R's will have a high tolerance for corruption in one of their own on the court. Esp during a D administration.
