  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Thank you

Thank you for this forum. My name is Christine but I use Rota for personal reasons so either is fine. I am a wife and a mother and I live in the UK. I have joined these forums to connect with other Christians.

I am initially looking for some simple daily prayers for a variety of situations. Hope, thanks etc, a morning prayer/evening prayer.

I say the Lord's Prayer often but it would also be nice to have others so I can maintain that connection with God throughout the day.

By simple I suppose I mean uncomplicated - I am Catholic by upbringing but over the years find myself drawn more and more to a simpler form of worship.

Hello Christine (@Rota), WELCOME TO CF :wave: I'm glad that you found us and joined in the discussions with us :)

God bless you!! (1 Thessalonians 5:23-24)

--David
p.s. - the short passage below (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18) tells us how to practice the presence of God throughout our daily lives. If you'd like to pursue this, a good way to do so is to begin slowly, looking for things (just the simplest things at first) to rejoice in and give thanks to God for because, believe it or not, your Creator ~wants~ to be part of your daily life, the biggest part of it, actually (so be sure to include Him).

Simply AMAZING, isn't it :)

You can even thank Him for the setbacks, the things that do not go your way, and even the things that seem very bad to you, things that have gone horribly wrong, trusting/knowing that He is in control of it all and that He will work all of it together for your good .. e.g. Romans 8:28 (though I know that this can be difficult to do, especially when everything seems dark and bad things are happening).

However, as pastor/theologian Charles Spurgeon (who lived and preached in the UK) once said of all of the bad things in his life, "I've learned to kiss the waves that throw me up against the Rock of Ages".

1 Thessalonians 5
16 Rejoice always;
17 pray without ceasing;
18 in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Sometimes it helps to have a pattern to follow when praying (to keep you on track), especially during those times of the day that you set aside for prayer. There are several, but the following is the one that I have been using for years.

A - adoration
C - confession
T - thanksgiving
S - supplication
Also, here are a couple of links explaining the ACTS pattern of prayer, if you'd like to know a bit more about it (along with a link to a short daily devotional and prayer from the folks at the Billy Graham Crusade).

Thank you for this beautiful advice. I haven't heard of the ACTS pattern but it seems a great way to stay connected with the Lord. That's my aim. To feel His presence no matter what I am doing.

I am used to praying but as I said in my initial post I feel apart from God sometimes. I don't want any fancy sort of praying. Just a clear simple openness on my part.

God bless you.

Hello again @Rota, I just discovered this prayer site and, considering all that it has to offer, I thought that you might be interested to see it too :)

God bless you!! (Numbers 6:24-26)

--David
p.s. - you may also enjoy the following daily broadcast called Gateway to Joy by missionary Elisabeth Elliot (they are just a little over 10 minutes long, just FYI). Although they may or may not be about prayer directly, I believe that what you will find yourself thanking God for them and praying about what you learn from her each day. If you don't know who Elisabeth is and what she did, she is truly worth looking into :) BTW, her broadcasts are meant for all, but her focus is on women/family/marriage/children.

Go to: Gateway to Joy with Elisabeth Elliot and scroll down a bit and you will see the place to start the message of the day (or you can into the library if you are interested in a particular topic, such as prayer, and listen to those messages instead). The following words are how she opens most of her broadcasts.

Welcome.
I use this to say thank you to our Lord and St Jude who have once again massively been there for me and my family.
