  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Scientifically speaking, creating a humanzee would be no different from how we've created Ligers and Mules.
I don't think it is genetically possible. The others you mention could be done because they mated with their kind. I'm sure they tried with no luck with humanzees.

I asked a biologist if the mating of chimps and humans was possible.
His answer was, "That is an Unethical Question."
It is unethical to even ask the question...according to scientist.

Nah, it's not unethical to ask any question, as far as I'm aware, and this one in particular has already been answered with a tentative yes, by no less eminent a scientist than Richard Dawkins.

I'd imagine any scientist saying it's an unethical question would be saying it's unethical to do so.

(And as a matter of logic, you'd have to be able to ask the question in order to determine whether it was ethical to ask it.)

50% animal, 50% man. So yes, I would view a humanzee as part man. It's in the name, bro.

Analogy: vinegar = human, water = man

Say you mix 5% vinegar with water. What do you get? You still get vinegar.

Wait, what? Are you saying humans aren't animals? Is that what you believe?

Humans are animals, but with a spirit. That is what I believe as a Christian. Other religions have the right to believe differently, as we are granted freedom of religion, and freedom not to adhere to religion in the US and other parts of the western world. :)

The Japanese during WWII asked a question.
"How long can a person survive in freezing water under varying circumstances?"
That is an unethical question.
The Japanese proceeded to experiment, using prisoners of war, to answer that question.

Dawkins may be eminent but that does not mean he is ethical
Dawkins has used his scientific eminence to trash Christianity for years.
Made big bucks doing it and yet he is now claiming that he "wants to live in a Christian culture."
Supposedly amongst Christians who he tells his acolytes to call "Stupid" if the Christian or anyone else dare Question Darwinism.
If Dawkins would allow this question about humanzees, then Dawkins is ethically challenged and stupid, as Dawkins has labeled anyone who questions his religion, Darwinism.
To Dawkins, some questions are allowed, some questions are stupid.
This question about humanzees is unethical.
Should not be asked or answered.

Should not be asked or ananswered
I sense this topic is more emotional than ethical for many posting here. I find that fascinating.

...I say that, because posters typically don't respond to posts that don't deserve answers. Yet, we have many posts.

I'm VERY interested in why that is.

But no, they say they're surprised it hasn't happened yet, considering it's entirely possible. Which I didn't know myself until today, which is why I was captivated by the topic after watching the documentary.

Humans are not animals. They are in the flesh but they possess the spirit to create.
They have the inherent capacity to act heroically against their own individual self interest.
The men who hit the beach at Normandy, charging into the face of death against all instinct of self preservation, were not animals.
Men who enter burning buildings to save strangers are not animals.
Wolves may stand their ground as a pack but they will flee to save themselves rather than act to save other wolves.
There is too much of man that transcends animal, even though both are in the flesh.

Those guys who made the Liger said it's possible.

The Liger is the largest cat in the world if the father is a lion, and the mother a tiger... The other way around, and they're not so large (fun fact). They can weigh over 900 pounds.

Hercules, a liger, weighing 922 lbs. He's the largest cat in the world.

Oh? But 99 percent of our DNA coding sequences are the same as chimps... So... We probably can.
We also share a large percentage of DNA with mice. That is why they do medical experiments with them. We also share DNA with chickens, fruit flies, and even a banana.

But not 99%.

Chimps are only two chromosomes off from humans - the *exact* same difference between lions and tigers.

Think about it. Since the monkey-to-man debate, you mean to say they haven't tried to inseminate a chimp to prove and end the debate?

It's a highly emotional topic. People try to silence anyone who even "talks" about it.

...Imagine the protests that would break out if it did occur - it would be chaos.
