Im referring mainly to such as myself , an independant
woman who grew up in a non Christian culture
with, like Western nations, a deep histoty of
repression of women.
If I had lived pre Mao, I would have had bound feet
( and mind). No doubt I would have adapted and accepted
my role, for own sanity.
I noted elsewhere, btw, that Mao did more for
the status of women than christianity has in 2000
years. Accepting the boblical role is going backwards
so, no thanks and no deal. Too much self respect here
for that. Or for my traditional role in Chinese society.
As for "blasphemy" that is in the eyes of the
beholder. Earth orbiting the sun, and saying there
are sunspots was serious, severely punishable
blasphemy at one time
But people adapt themselves, and what they decide
the bible " really" means, as society grows and matures.
Stoning adulterors and witches is out, despite what the
plain text says.
How slaves are to be acquired and treated isnt acceptrd anymore.
And some of us wont accept how women are supposed
to be disrespected, either.
An issue i find lot more important than how
a book is treated.
Now I personally would not kick a bible.
At NYU a fellow student movrd one of my
texts with his foot. I was really annoyed by
the disrespect. Books are to be respected.
But I kept quiet, its not a cultural thing in the west.
No disrespect was intended.
If he'd intended disrrspect, I would have slapped him.
If said pastor intended disrespec for god, she might be in
the wrong line of work.
As it is, Id go with a lack of good sense on her part.
Very tacky behabiour I'd say.
As an insult god worthy of eternal hellfire
not so much.
