Government report says suicides are at a record high; Catholic University of America expert sees number as only the tip of an iceberg, but thinks that there can be solutions.

While it’s newsworthy that a government report shows suicides in the United States as being up by 3% – reaching a record high – for a Washington-based researcher the more astounding figure is that over 16 million Americans seriously considered ending their lives last year.

The thing that I tend to emphasize even more [than the number of suicides] is that there are 16,600,000 Americans – adults and teens – who report serious thoughts of suicide,” said David A. Jobes, director of the Suicide Prevention Laboratory at The Catholic University of America. “That’s a massive number of people. That’s over 300 times greater than people that die of suicide. To me as a clinician, as a researcher, it’s a really compelling number. That’s a lot of suffering souls.”

Even during 2019-2020, the first time in decades that there was a decline in the rates of suicide in the US, there was still “a steady march upwards of serious thoughts of suicide,” Jobes told Aleteia.

Also goes to show that even the United States more so than ever needs Jesus.

I've been there, even attempted. I'm an idiot and it was weakness. There is no excusing it. It is not normal. It is not right. It is selfish. Everyone with the mindset or who has attempted needs to get themselves together and change their mindset and habits. There comes a point in every boy's and every girl's life when they become a man and a woman, and that is when they realize that nobody is coming to save them and they have to help themselves and better themselves.

I'm curious what made you weak? Weakness is the manifestation of your mindset and no matter how strong you are stinkin thinkin will make you weak.
I am also one to have a shotgun under my chin with my thumb on the trigger. I agree it was selfish and that is how God snapped me out of it. The minute I closed my eyes and was ready to pull the trigger God sent a vision of my two baby girls running into the room seeing gray matter and blood splattered all over the headboard. I didn't want them to see that. This snapped me out of my delusion and was able to get medication. It's your thinking or perception about your life that can make you weak or strong.

Do you think all those soldiers who are committing suicide are weak? I don't, they are just having trouble forgetting what they saw.

Trauma has been one of the factors in my suicidal situation. I wish I could erase my past!!!! I am at the point of just wondering will I ever be normal? How to get out of the this battle Im in? Maybe I am weak? Maybe? I don’t know???

You're not weak because trauma is trauma. I have a granddaughter with a problem, and I had anger issues. First you need to talk to a doctor about suicide now. A suggestion would be to look on YouTube for meditation for trauma and that might help. I cam my mind in mediation/ then prayer. But talk to a doctor ASAP Be Blessed!

I think your life is too important to allow some doctor to rent space in your mind. Just get the pills! They help until you figure things out and if you pray God will help you.

If you’d look at my life you may think different. I’m a person the world can do without easily.
I’m a musician I play multiple instruments and play in church. That’s about the only thing I do that’s productive in some way. I would love to do more in my church but I’m to screwed up to!

Being selfish is thinking about yourself MANY times when pope get to that point they very wrongly and I get that) think that other people will be better off without them. This does not sound like being selfish to me very far from it.

Sometimes there is people in life that will tell you the world would be a better place without you. I’ve been told that 4 times in my life by a close family member. This person has even been considerate enough to give me the means to take my own life. Anyway that’s just life. The devil will definitely use people to steer you the wrong way. I ought to know!

My sister just got out of ICU after trying to kill herself. She is schizophrenic as well as bipolar.
