America has its domestic reasons for electing a president and it is their choice whom they elect but because they are the current leader of the free world the result matters to the rest of us also. So I wanted to start a thread on the potential international repercussions of the 2024 election. especially since Trump now seems to be the preferred candidate of most Republicans.

1) This election is a choice between isolationism and internationalism. Isolationism would mean Ukraine being conquered by Russia with possible further advances to follow and most likely an unopposed invasion of Taiwan to follow that with the loss of the main advanced chip industry to the Chinese. It could mean the end of NATO as a security alliance with the repercussion of less world stability, loss of American influence both military and economic and with the increased global instability the onset of more wars, economic depression (following increased protectionism), and a loss of global cooperation on key issues like the environment, pandemics, and global organized crime.

2) Trump is perceived as being unfit to govern by just about everybody in the Western world outside the USA. His election would result in an immediate loss of American credibility (he is a proven liar (e.g. election fraud claim) and will probably be convicted of crimes before the election). Trump as president might spell the death of American global leadership, and the failure of the Europe-US alliance that has kept the peace for the last 77 years.

Quit frankly America is a legend in it's own mind. The only real influence it has ever had on a global basis as far as people are concerned was (not is) music and movies. Politics are only for those of poor self esteem who think thy have found identity in the team sport of said politics, pursuing celebrity rather than common sense..

I could not disagree more. American support in Ukraine has been indispensable. Its guarantees of Tailwanese sovereignty are what stop the Chinese from invading right now and it remains the mainstay of the NATO alliance. Its intelligence and signaling services are second to none.

Isolationism would fundamentally undermine the stability of the world in ways we have not seen since World War Two. It is the clear objective of both Russia and China to achieve a multipolar world and the withdrawal of America from the world stage would be a clear victory for both of America's main rivals.

I agree except for " Intelligence". It has failed us at critical moments

Pearl Harbor, 911, and the Afghanistan withdrawal are major examples of failure. In the last case, the correct information was not being passed up the chain and the hierarchies filters were flawed. However, the use of intelligence in Ukraine has been distributed differently so that it is not so dependent on ambitious generals, politicians, and high officials filtering out bad news and it has proven quite effective.

Again, they are all playing a political game honed through the millennia that the common man has no interest in but has been forced to suffer. Their days are numbered. The majority of common man has always looked forward to a time when the authority of man over man will be removed once and for all and they have no real interest in participating to make matters worse.

I was also thinking Bay of Pigs and Iraq.

What do Canadians, British folks, Aussies and Kiwis think of the political divisiveness in the US? This site has a few Canadians, Australians and UK folks here. It would be cool to hear international perspectives from CF users outside of the USA.

Well speaking as a British man in Germany. There is no better way to attack the USA than by cultivating the partisan political culture of the last few years. Trump perfectly serves the interests of Russia and China in weakening the USA and ideally pushing it to the point of civil war. His denigration of his enemies just puts people's backs up and deepens the divide. We are almost at the point where both sides can no longer speak with each other and their ideological incompatibility has become absolute.

I started a thread in American politics if you want to look at the domestic issues:

I agree with you entirely, and made a post on the forums about the divide of the USA as well, and how both parties used to shake hands in the past. Now, the rift has grown, and Donald wants to weaken the US.

Account for the fact he is promoting the return of the US to nationalism rather than globalism as the current build back better crew promotes which has the sole purpose of destabilizing nations around the world including from within in the US in favour of a global government?

Trump will most likely destabilize the US.

Nationalism is a thing of the past. Globalism is inescapable. COVID showed us that. And U.S. interests are all over the world.

Yet in the past just the opposite, his platform was to restore nationalism which appealed to many who remember when America took pride in itself rather than in self interest. The schism in the nation already existed among people who themselves were and are destabilized in character.

Curse or not, reality.
Right and regardless of who wins, nothing in the world changes... that is until the people themselves rise up against the globalist elites and tell them their time is over. Their armageddon, the exposure for what they are is coming. No wonder populist has become a bad word in the paid media. The Corporate dictatorship knows how powerful the masses are, the people just haven't figured it out yet.

Yeah. Our universities are NOT full of international students because we have such wretched higher education in this country. Our military has absolutely no influence with our allies and partners. American brands are not sold in any foreign country. The International Space stations does not have an American section. American corporations do not operate in countries across the globe. No one uses transistors, personal computers nor iPhones other than Americans.
