Israel is not going to be able to destroy Hamas militarily. It may drive Hamas underground for awhile, but they will reappear at some point in the future, perhaps under another name, but it will still be the same actors. The current approach is only going to exacerbate long-standing grievances between the Palestinians and Israel, and until those grievances are addressed, terrorist attacks against Israel will continue. With every Palistinian child, brother, sister, father, mother, or grandparent that is killed by Isreali forces, another potential terrorist is born.

Other side effects of the ongoing military campaign against Hamas will be the possibility of splinter groups forming and foreign terrorist groups and lone wolves who sympathize with Hamas and the struggle of the Palestinian people to conduct terror attacks in other parts of the world. Until there's a comprehensive approach that addresses the grievances of not only the Palestinians but also those of the Israelis, the conflict between the two will continue.
Yup and the cycle continues. If only the Palestinians would have accepted a country and quit attacking Israel. If only they wouldnt have accepted Hamas as a leadership. Lots of mistakes made.

Trump Tells Allies He Wants Netanyahu ‘Impeached’

The former president is using the crisis to plot revenge on the Israeli prime minister who refused to buy into the lie that the 2020 election was stolen

In recent days, Trump has had phone calls with various pro-Israel GOP allies and donors who want to know how Trump would handle Israeli-Palestinian matters if reelected, two sources familiar with the matter tell Rolling Stone.

In a recurring comment Trump has yet to voice publicly, the former president ... said Netanyahu should be “impeached” by the Israeli Parliament because the assault — which was preceded by an apparently catastrophic intelligence failure on the part of Netanyahu’s government — occurred on his watch.

Trump has also asked multiple longtime advisers if he should now publicly call for Netanyahu to step down as prime minister. Some confidants and allies have recently recommended that he not do it this week, as the dead are still being counted and a major war seems underway.

I mean those who fled there as refugees (some of whom surely are alive today.)

Oh I see. Sorry, I'm a little slow. Many came from the region their forefathers conquered through bloody conquest, which is today called Israel.
I may need to correct myself. I came across this video today where beginning at 15:12 this guy says that hundreds of thousands of Arabs came to the land (Israel/Palestine) from other places seeking employment with the British. You could say this is just "random YouTube guy" but he begins the video by repeatedly challenging listeners to contradict his facts. What he says stands to reason given the accounts by travelers like Mark Twain who describe the place as pretty desolate back in the day.

Should Netanyahu be impeached? Probably. If not for the failure of intelligence, then for his numerous other misdeeds. But now is hardly the best time for that.

The IRA and its offshoots committed many atrocities both In N Ireland and Great Britain. The UK government did not bomb the republican areas of NI or the Republic of Ireland. A measure of peace was achieved by secret dialogue with the IRA and its political wing (Sinn Fein).
Not comparable. The Troubles lasted a much shorter time, and involved rare (albeit horrible) isolated incidents. Most took place in N. Ireland. N. Ireland was not a literal next door neighbor to Britain, much less were the British literally surrounded by enemies, and AFAIK, the IRA never called for the abolishment of Britain and the genocide of the British people.

Or maybe pay a few million cash or trade (like with missiles?not good) , to have them released ?

The video in post #156 the Hamas leader says they were looking to capture American hostage's because of the Biden policies of negotiating prisoner swaps like with Iran. Money like the 6 billion dollars given to Iran was not mentioned, only that at the 16:11 mark said they will have to pay the price.

Inside Kfar Aza where Hamas militants killed families in their homes

Kibbutz Kfar Aza is a microcosm of the first few days of this war, and also a glimpse of what might come next.
Until Tuesday morning, fighting was still going on in the kibbutz, which is one of the Israeli communities along the border with Gaza. That's why only now are they collecting the bodies of its Israeli residents who were killed when Hamas broke through the border wire from Gaza early on Saturday morning.

Where did he say anything about money, he knows we don't control any of Hamas' money.
What he does talk about is a prisoner exchange and says we did one with Iran recently, but nothing about money that I heard. time is at 15:38

If I'm wrong where can I find it in the video?

  • Hostage situation: The Israel Defense Forces said it has notified the families of 120 hostagestaken captive during the Hamas attack, IDF spokesperson Daniel Hagari said on social media on Friday. The United Kingdom's ambassador to the United Nations, Dame Barbara Woodward, said Friday that she will urge her Security Council colleagues to do all they can to secure the release of hostages in the Middle East, as well as de-escalate conflict in the region and allow humanitarian aid to reach Gaza.
  • Why didn't Israel anticipate the attacks?: US officials and lawmakers are generally coming to believe that Israel’s failure to predict the explosion of simmering rage from Gaza was primarily due to a lack of imagination, according to conversations with dozens of current and former intelligence, military and congressional officials.

Israel's monitoring included shooting Palestinian paramedics and their vehicles when they tended to the wounded, maiming male teenagers by shooting live rounds at the knees, using live rounds at demonstrators, causing deaths and also using live rounds at anyone they "think" looks suspicious.
So you really think Israel would waste a $100,000+ missile on an ambulance?.....or that their artillery is so accurate that they can pinpoint such a small target from several miles away? Don't expect those of us here to pay attention to your unsupported propaganda. Where did you get it from?.....Hamas-R-Us?

Israel: White Phosphorus Used in Gaza, Lebanon

Use in Populated Areas Poses Grave Risks to Civilians

Israel is denying claims it used white phosphorus munitions after the international advocacy group Human Rights Watch (HRW) accused Israeli forces of using them during military operations in Gaza and Lebanon this week.

Israel Defense Forces strongly denied the claims. In a live interview earlier on Friday, IDF spokesman Lt. Col. Peter Lerner told CNN “categorically, no," it had not.

HRW said it interviewed two individuals from the al-Mina area in Gaza City, who described seeing strikes “consistent with the use of white phosphorus" and "both described ongoing airstrikes before seeing explosions in the sky followed by what they described as white lines going earthward,” they said.

The rights group said it reviewed the video and confirmed that it was taken in the port of Gaza City and “identified that the munitions used in the strike were airburst 155mm white phosphorus artillery projectiles. Other videos posted to social media and verified by Human Rights Watch show the same location," the group said. "Dense white smoke and a garlic smell are characteristics of white phosphorus,” the statement said.

Israel's history with white phosphorus: Israel previously faced widespread criticism for firing white phosphorus shells over densely populated areas during a Gaza offensive that began in late 2008. HRW said in a 2009 report that Israel's white phosphorus munitions had killed and injured civilians and damaged civilian structures, including including a school, a market, a humanitarian aid warehouse, and a hospital.

--
On that previous use of white phosphorus, Israel admitted it some two years later in their investigation of themselves:

The 'explosive admission' in Israel's Gaza report (-->2010<--)

Buried in paragraph 108 of the Israeli foreign ministry's report to the UN on Gaza is the key fact of the document.

Two senior officers - one the commander of the Gaza ground operation, no less - were reprimanded for failing to follow their own rules of engagement.

This is an explosive admission, especially after Israel had said earlier - after an investigation by a senior general - that white phosphorus was not misused during the Gaza conflict.

And this is in relation to one of the most notorious incidents of the conflict, the burning of the main UN warehouse in Gaza City with white phosphorus shells.

Israel wouldn't be using $100,000 missiles to target vehicles. More than likely they would be using JDAMs which cost around $20,000. Still a lot of money, but when you have a friend like the US providing billions in military aid, 20K is nothing.

It sounds like at bottom there is no moral principle to appeal to, and just whoever can capture the land and relocate the inhabitants has it, and the rest of the world should respect that simply as a practical matter.

I'm not just being flip either, as I'm writing from former Indian land - which may have even changed hands a few times before white settlers came.
The thing is that has been the way of things since the beginning of time. The difference is now we consider ourselves more civilized and don't like the bloody conquest bit anymore. But we also don't like necessarily getting involved directly to stop it either.

We are a fickle bunch.
