The bishop of San Francisco de Macorís in the Dominican Republic, Alfredo De la Cruz, who will be participating in the Synod on Synodality in October at the Vatican, said the event should discuss mandatory celibacy, the diaconate, and the ministerial priesthood for women, among other issues.

The prelate made the remarks during a virtual event titled “International Synod Conversation of the Church. Will anything change in the Church?” organized by the Academy of Catholic Leaders and held Sept. 18.

Also participating in the event were Cardinal Seán O’Malley, archbishop of Boston and president of the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors; Luis Cabrera, archbishop of Guayaquil, Ecuador; and the Spanish laywoman Eva Fernández, coordinator of the International Forum of Catholic Action.

Asked about what could change in Catholic doctrine, Bishop De la Cruz noted: “We must first distance ourselves from everything that fundamentalism signifies, from believing that doctrine can’t be touched. That would be the first temptation we would have, to believe that doctrine can’t be touched. Doctrine is there in order to reflect, to see.”

This kind of thinking is bad news. It unanchors doctrine from everything but the supposed ‘Magisterium of Francis’. Scripture doesn’t matter, Tradition doesn’t matter, the entire Magisterium before 10.5 years ago doesn’t matter. All that matters is a current ideology of the world.

One of the women chosen by pope Francis to attend the synod as a voting member is a staff member at St. Joan of Arc parish in Minneapolis. That’s the world famous flaming LGBTQWERTY parish that has somehow not been shut down. As if they needed MORE votes for that cause at the synod.

They are going to do it in small chunks, it's how "they" work.

In reality if the numbers are correct, the clergy is already full of the "G" and "B" in the LGBTQ, and there seems little changing that. How many cardinals has Francis appointed, and will that set the course for the future?

It seems the Papacy and the true Church are on separate paths.

And so we need to pray. And to give witness to the hope that is within us. God wins in the end, truth prevails, and the gates of hell do not destroy the Church even if we get a bit mauled in the process. Now is the time to persevere, and we do that in prayer.
