  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Sorry I don't trust the data. Especially if it's self reported. I want details of every incident. Who assaulted them, where were they besides "in a bathroom". Was it a Wal-Mart, Theater, restaurant, school,? Did they know the suspects. How were they assaulted?

Pardon me if I just don't take this word for it.
Remember, they assert that misusing pronouns equals assault.

Anyone with a half way decent Mathematics background would know that statistics can be manipulated to make them say whatever they want them to say, depending on how they are calculated.

I suspect that you know this as well as I do.
I'm well aware. In fact, that's what you're trying to do here by comparing two un-like sets of data.
Now that we have that out in the open; those who are less educated won't be tricked by the tomfoolery of snipping a narrow window of the available data; that best supports the agenda of the group who presented those statistics.
I'm not snipping anything. The studies that had the information I was looking for relating to assaults in bathrooms on transgender people only covered 1-year timeframes. When comparing data sets, you compare like to like - if one data set covers a 1-year timeframe, then you try to find a comparison data set that also covers a 1-year timeframe. If you have a study that looks at the number of bathroom assaults committed against transgender people in their lifetimes, then we can compare that to the lifetime sexual assault numbers from the CDC for cisgender people.

Your last statement conflicts with the information in your links.
In what way? Generally, if you're going to assert that someone is wrong, it's polite to explain why you think that so that discussion can continue.

We have one (very shaky) example of a transgender person (or person posing as transgender) assaulting a woman in the bathroom. I was unable to find any more. In contrast, 1% of transgender people reported being sexually assaulted in bathrooms, and restricting transgender teens from using their preferred facilities is associated with a significant increase in the rate of sexual assault.

The study specified physical and sexual assault. Verbal harassment was a separate category as well.

Kinda like those diagrams being passed around in Germany in the 1930s, showing how to identify a person of Jewish ancestry.
Kinda...except these would be based on real biological differences (not imaginary ones)
And who is collecting the data for "bulges"? Sorry, people with an ideological axe to grind aren't very good biologists.
and no one is rounding up men for execution.
But it's being advocated. We haven't gotten to the point where those guys are running things yet.

Remember, Hitler didn't hate Jews, either; early in his life, he praised them, and he was close friends with a Jewish doctor who cared for his mother. But he needed a group for his followers to hate. It was just business for him. This is why you see this, early on from Trump:

You think that some low life is going to risk a few years in the slammer by assaulting a woman in a restroom and that some governor saying that people will be considered the sex that they were when they were born is going to make him think 'Hmm. You know, he's right. Maybe I actually shouldn't be here'.?

You actually do. That's been your whole premise. It's a nonsensical position. So something tells me that a couple of goalposts are going to be relocated pretty soon.

You honestly think cops are going to be standing outside of restrooms just waiting for a mom to take her young child into the restroom so they can hand out tickets?
I think people are largely petty and have not cultivated proper coping skills in today's times. Much of what I see on CF and in the news confirms this for me.

A person has a grudge against someone else (ie cut them off prior to parking in the mall, took "their" parking space, parked in a handicapped space when the observer can just tell by looking at the person they are not handicapped, just looked at them wrong, child is "too" loud or boisterous, bought the last box of Thin Mints, etc...) and the aggrieved person could easily call the police on someone when they see them using the facilities. This raises countless issues due to pettiness and poorly written laws.

I feel confident that women wont need any special technology to screen what bulges don't belong in a public shower room with them.
As a woman, I do not spend my time reviewing, analyzing or rating anyone's crotch no matter where I am. I tend to believe that is both incredibly rude and generally a very negative behavior to engage in or encourage others to engage in. Staring at someone else's crotch long enough to evaluate it definitely sends many signals that the person staring may not want to be sending.

It is also not very Christian of anyone to be staring at someone's crotch long enough to rate it if said person is not your spouse. I do not like people staring at my crotch or chest while they evaluate me for any reason. So call me weird, but I do not stare at or evaluate other people's bodies like they are a chunk of meat in a grocery store.

I pay attention to people's faces and their eyes which show off intent/demeanor with a much greater clarity than their crotch does. I even smile at people because I am friendly and a side benefit is it increases the accuracy of my gauge of their intent/demeanor. For my safety's sake, the intent and demeanor of another person is what is important, not what is between their legs.

I can't tell if that is meant satirically or not. I sincerely hope that it is. Because it's like saying that if they put no parking zones outside a bank then nobody will rob the bank because they'd have to park the getaway car a block away.

Yes, I meant to go back and add *sarcasm* but failed to do so. I have heard for years that the looming risk of a misdemeanor charge of being in the wrong restroom will stop/reduce rapes and kidnappings.

My apologies for my confusion. But you get so many off-the-wall comments in threads like this that it really is hard to tell sometimes. But what is being suggested is this: 'As a transwoman I used to hang around in women's restrooms on the chance that I could assault a woman. But darn it, as I was born a biological man I can't do that since Pillen made his anouncement'.

I have a tendency to mistrust anyone who says misgendering them is violence. Or failure to use desired pronouns is violence. Or those who think looking at them funny is violence. Or who make false claims about suicide statistics, false claims about other research etc. They made false claims about murder rates too.

They make other false allegations to like anyone who disagrees with their agenda is a hater. They claim anyone who disagrees with the ideology is transphobic.

Too many false claims makes one unreliable.

Good Lord, how difficult is this to get across? If some low life is intent on assaulting women in a restroom then the governor of Alaska saying 'hey, if you were born a male then you will be classed as a male' is not going to stop that sexual pervert in any way, shape or form. It's beyond nonsensical to even suggest it.
Good grief, why do lock your doors? Why do lock your car? Why do businesses lock their doors at night or put gates up?

Why do jewelers put their stuff in cases? Why is it less safe for women to go out at night rather than the middle of the day? Why do you want to stay out of dark alleys?

Why do all these things to make it more difficult for people to commit crime.

Geez I guess we shouldn't have any laws then because laws don't stop anyone from committing a crime. We shouldn't do anything at all to try and prevent crime. Cause you know, criminals will do stuff anyway so there is no point right?

If a criminal is intent on doing something they are just going to do it no matter what? All the time?

Yes there are some really bad people who will do really bad things no matter what. But there are also those who will be deterred by not allowing ease of access. If men aren't allowed in the women's restroom women are going to be wondering why a man is in the women's restroom don't you think? They are going to be more cautious and more questioning. Employees are going to pay attention when a man walks into a woman's restroom because he's not supposed to be there. It's called situational crime prevention.

Stopping the opportunities for crime is an effective way of preventing crime. Increasing the risks of detection, reducing the rewards for offending and increasing the difficulty of offending are all ways to prevent crime.

Why to cops tell you to lock your doors? How hard is this to understand? Look you are not a criminal so don't think like one. But I'm telling you that the criminal mind wants things easy, not difficult. The more effort it takes the less likely they are going to do it. By and large that's the truth. Why is that difficult to understand?

They're going to wonder about that whatever some governor proclaims. But you seem to think that some transgender person who for some reason is thinking about assaulting a woman in a restroom is going to decide against it because the governor has said they are not allowed to be there.

Some of you guys are so naive it's hard to credit.

Why? Are you looking for a job lol?

Sorry, people with an ideological axe to grind aren't very good biologists.

You don't have to remind me...I was pointing out they couldn't define man or woman at least a year before anyone heard of Matt Walsh.

But it's being advocated.

Is it? What sort of media are you consuming these days? Perhaps it's time to clear out the old browser history, eh?

We haven't gotten to the point where those guys are running things yet.

Not sure who exactly you are referring to but this administration is the first in my lifetime to openly advocate for (and practice) racial discrimination.

Remember, Hitler didn't hate Jews,

Yeah he did.

either; early in his life, he praised

I'm not sure why you think his opinions on the Jewish people prior to WW1 were all that relevant after WW1.

.
But he needed a group for his followers to hate. It was just business for him.

I would suggest that when reading up on Hitler's personal history, avoid certain authors like...

Anyone from the Nation of Islam.
Anyone Iranian.
Anyone Palestinian.

This is why you see this, early on from Trump:

And now...

Trump unveils sweeping attack on trans rights

You really should read past the smear in the title. Children don't have any right to elective surgery or untested medical treatments.

He just needs a group for his followers to hate.

I don't see any indication that he or anyone else hates trans people. Quite the opposite, he seems to care about children.

It's just business.

No, it's good policy. Keeping doctors from experimenting on children is a good idea for every nation.

Americans are unlikely to ever go as far as Trump is advocating.

He's advocating that children don't receive experimental treatments for a condition likely to resolve itself.

But they thought it couldn't happen in Germany, either.

Americans?

And while it started with Jews, it went on to labor leaders, gypsies, and other religious minorities etc.

Well let's consider who is the scapegoat these days...

White men.

White men.

White men.

Here's an insightful article from a left wing female POC....

Today’s Democratic Party is predicated on having and expressing open hostility toward white citizens. They are making the dangerous bet that most minorities and immigrants will jump on the white-male-bashing bandwagon.

So while I would agree that there is definitely a significant amount of scapegoating and nazi-ish tactics in politics these days, I think somehow you failed to identify the target and the ones doing the targeting.

Even Shark Week is guilty of the sin of "white men".

So if you ever recognize the hatred towards trans people is even remotely close to the hatred towards white men, I promise, I'll speak out about it. As of now....you've got nothing to worry about.

All the bigoted and discriminatory policy these days is coming from the left.

Is it a lie if they truly believe that someone using the wrong pronoun is doing "violence" to them?

Lol well no....that's not a lie if they believe it. It's simply false...their honestly held beliefs are false.

The 3 or so times I found myself in the restroom with what appeared to be a man I did not wonder why nor did I presume to ask them why. It was evident they came in to use the facilities and they left. I would say a very high percentage of people who go into a restroom is to use the facilities...granted a few women go in to check themselves in the mirror, but the vast majority go into a restroom to use the facilities.
