Phrases like "We''ll take back our country" trump loves to say is precisely the marching orders for those who start these types of conflicts. ANTIFA and the like are reactionary factions to those who are seeking the power; they are not the ones who are seeking the power but trying to stop the wrong people from being in power. This all started IMO with Pat Buchanan shining a light on immigration in America warning white minority in America is inevitable, possibly by 2050. No wonder there is such a cry from the right regarding a border wall, revoking birthright citizenship, encouraging white families to churn out more white babies, and closing the borders to immigrants. Today it is obvious that the cry to stop immigration is at a fever pitch, and the odds of a civil war increase during trying times.

Then you are not listening. Edit. Perhaps I should have said 'reduce immigration and choose where immigrants come from' because that falls in line with choosing the type of people who are allowed to immigrate which benefits the white race.

I think it is funny that such a small group of people who yields no power other than civil disobedience and petty crime is compared to the rich and powerful who purchase politicians, help write tax code and help make laws to benefit the rich over the poor.

Perhaps you're right, and I'm not suggesting that you're not. But just imagine for a second if the people on Jan. 6th had been armed and violent. How quick do you think Trump would've been to invoke some sort of executive power?

I know that we can't imagine such things happening in the U.S., and it's always impossible... until it isn't.

It just seems to me however that Trump wasn't one to care very much about what other people thought, no matter who they were. And if you get just the right people in just the right places, and light just the right matches... who knows what someone like that can do.

That takes a lot of people going along with it, and it's still a fact that most people in the governmental agencies that have physically coercive power (i.e., guns) are still very much classically conservative. There are a whole lot of those people who are going to say, "Wait a minute" and will start dragging their heels. That was a very big internal lesson they learned during the ramp-up to the Iraq war.

They will look closely at whether Congress goes along with such Executive actions, and whether "soft insubordination" would find Congressional support and protection.

Which is what worries me actually, because there seems to be a grass roots movement among conservatives to put like minded people in critical positions. Which is something that might not be that worrisome at first, but as I said... 'get just the right people in just the right places, and light just the right matches' and what seemed unimaginable becomes a little less inconceivable.

In my view this should even worry conservatives, because something could conceivably happen, which they never intended to happen. In the drive to put like minded people in critical places we are often drawn to the most vocal among us. Those who are the most outspoken... the most ardent, rather than those who are the most moderate.

Of course the opposition is then compelled to respond in kind, with both of them swinging to greater and greater extremes. Each of them justifying their actions by the actions of the other.

My suggestion... be mindful of who and what you're supporting. Be moderate in your rhetoric and in your choices, and hope that like minded people on the other side will do the same.

Sound advice.

But its not exciting. Moderation doesn't promise the world. Nor does it demonize neighbors as enemies. In other words: its fails to push the emotional buttons that deliver the AM radio style drugs of indignation and self satisfaction and even rage that so many of us are addicted to.

Also, moderation is usually more work, requiring the cultivation of more knowledge and understanding than does simply casting hot judgement everywhere because youve been told to.

I have no problem with people having different opinions. But when one side attacks the halls of Congress while beating up the cops and erecting a gallows for the Vice President in order to overturn the presidential election, don't tell me it was simply a difference of opinion.

Furthermore, the calls for civil war are coming from the side which tried to steal the election. I don't believe there will be one, but if there is one I know which side will start it, and most likely the fence you sit on will be burned or otherwise destroyed and you will have to land on one side or the other.

There's so much doublethink going on about it, too: on the one hand the left is weak and cowardly, but on the other ANTIFA is [supposedly] going to raze entire cities and burn the entire US to the ground, lol.

It's the same as the whole argument with masks. A complete nothing burger, but so many on the right believed that Chinese-made paper masks were being mandated as a first step in some grand censorship plan, and that it was a signal of a Communist takeover.

How little confidence must a person have in the strength of the US to believe that paper masks, pronouns, and/or a couple hundred counter-protesters who occasionally attack RW'ers and cops will subvert the whole country?​

Honestly I think communists were way more significant back then, with an appealing ideology, and with some backing by the Soviet Union. We actually were in a cold war. But we did stupidly associate every left leaning inclination with "communism!", which was completely wrong.

Antifa otoh really is like.... almost nothing. They round down to zero, basically. Its a scare word to keep right wingers alarmed.
