  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If women priests were allowed to hear a woman’s
confession.

They could talk them out of it.
irrelevant to the thread....

No it’s not. @Love365 started this thread looking for ideas on how to stop abortions. This is an idea to stop abortions. You can argue it’s a bad idea and explain why you think that but it is absolutely on topic.

Hmm...there are female Episcopal/Anglican priests and female Lutheran clergy that hear confessions (although not as common as the RCC or Orthodox Churches, it is still available to the faithful). I'm sure some women can go for confession/counsel to them regarding their thoughts about abortion. *shrug* (?)

First world countries should have universal childcare paid for by taxes.

Anything less is irresponsible
It is not on the government to care for children that they did NOT decide to create. Nope that is on the people who chose to lie together. Now, in the rare case a person is raped it is neither the child, nor the woman's fault and so if she feels she cannot care for the child there are plenty of people who can and want them. Really the same thing applies to consental sex, but in that case the people involved knew the risk and so should realize one way or the other either through keeping the child or giving the child up for adoption it is not the government's job to provide "free" childcare.

If it is not for the government to care for children, then it should not be for the government to tell women to not have an abortion.

Did the government lie with a man to have the child? If not, then that woman needs to take responsiability for her own actions and not expect anything for "free" as a result. Now, that does not mean that I have issues with having strict requirements for receiving a certain amount of limited public assistance akin to how WIC is set up already. In fact, and this is a little outside the topic of this thread, but I am of the stance that SNAP should be handled closer to how WIC is than it currently is.

I agree. Women should be responsible for their children (not the fathers), and if they cannot expect the government to help them. They either suck it up or give their child away. Simple! Tough love....

Where did I say the fathers should not be responisable for their actions? I did not, but sense this thread is about abortions and men cannot have abortions I was talking about the mothers.

I never said you did. However you put the responsibility on the woman....and rightfully so. It is their bodies and it is their responsibility to have that baby because men wrote the laws demanding they not have abortions (or at least when it is not a baby a particular man had with a woman, then it is off to a state still allowing abortions).

There are many wasteful programs that tax dollars go to funding. Remove funding for extraneous programs and give the people a program they need like universal childcare. Childcare costs are through the roof and this discourages having babies, which is bad overall.

What is so bad about discouraging people from having babies?

Because in order to keep society functioning there has to be people to run and interact with it.

And here I thought babies slowed it down. Parents taking time off for babies, etc. Mothers leaving the workforce. etc.

not everyone NEEDS or deserves children. If you cannot afford them then do not have them. If you do not want them do have them.

Then are you for forced sterilization like America used to do to prisoners in the 1930's?

Doesn't this go against 'be fruitful and multiply?"

Not all people have business being fruitful for a number of reasons. The human race has been fruitful and multiplied that does not mean that every member of the human race that can needs to multiply.
