The paper’s elite editors and reporters are mystified that “U.S. deficit explodes even as economy grows.”​

But did the Beltway get suckered on a Biden boom that exists largely due to sham statistics?​

Cynics now claim that the Commerce Department no longer refers to its Bureau of Economic Analysis but instead to Biden’s Economic Alterations.​

Americans have seen years of bait-and-switch statistics — glorious job-growth numbers followed by downward revisions long after the victory lap.​

Also, you can't deride Wapo as biased, and then quote them as accurate a week later.

I think you can, as bias is not the same thing as reliability.

My problem with many favorite "conservative" sources isnt so much their bias, but their penchant to pass along flat out lies. Wapo does have an internal bias imo. But what it does choose to report on is generally reliable.

Unlike the NYP piece, the Wapo piece actually mentions the contributing factors:

Then a number of other spending increases contributed to the rising deficit — Social Security payments increased because they are indexed to inflation; the government spent more on education, veterans benefits and health care; and the bipartisan infrastructure law, as well as the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act, started sending billions of dollars out from the government’s accounts.

It's not only the lies; it's also the dumb editorializing and name calling that is often woven throughout. The OP's piece is rife with both.

While what you say is true, the rightwing criticisms of WaPo and similar media often stray beyond merely noting bias, and touch on reliability. A recent example:

'Anything from other than WAPO - they are hardly unbiased and their credibility is marginal at best.'

Good point. I think the msm center left sources generally have good journalistic standards, tho they do fall down once in a while. Its what they choose not to highlight that give me the most concern.... (at least since NYT with Judith Miller bought access at the cost of passing along unvetted Bush admin nonsense.)
