  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Judiciary Committee Uncovers Multiple FBI Field Offices Coordinated to Prepare Anti-Catholic Memo

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Subcommittee on the Constitution and Limited Government Chairman Mike Johnson (R-LA) just sent a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray revealing that the FBI Richmond Field Office coordinated with multiple FBI field offices across the country to produce the memo targeting traditional Catholics as potential domestic terrorists. This startling revelation contradicts Director Wray’s July 12, 2023, testimony before the Committee, when he stated the FBI’s actions were limited to “a single field office.”
Top Biden administration officials need to be charged and held accountable.

So what? It was a threat assessment. That's part of what the FBI does. Its day-to-day. Did you read the memo? There are multiple examples of explicit threats and evidence of conspiracy to commit violence tied directly to the targets' Catholic identities. In what way has anyone's 1st amendment rights been violated? Let me guess. Just because it's a favored religion in the country it's somehow immune from investigation?

What would you charge Biden administration officials with? For doing their jobs?

Mr. Wray lied. He claimed it was only one office. Why are Democrats protecting him? He has lost the trust of the American people. So Wray lied but you assume these anti-Catholic memos must be telling the truth! Wray knows the law, that's why he tried to cover up the truth. There have been numerous CRIMES committed against Catholics in the last couple of years that the FBI won't pursue. Under our Constitution you can't go after a particular religion or citizens just because they have contrary political views to the current regime. It's illegal to go in with guns blazing against conservatives because of suspicions while ignoring crimes from radical and violent left-wing organizations.

They're not "anti-Catholic". They're anti-domestic terrorist. Again, is it just because the people targeted happen to be Catholic that it's a problem? Are Catholics beyond reproach? Are they exempt from the law because of their Catholicness? None of what you think is happening is happening. It's all just spin. The right has nothing else. If these good Catholics are conspiring to break the law then they should be investigated, charged and prosecuted. That they are Catholic shouldn't matter.

Pope Francis says that churches are hospitals for sinners--and that means that Catholicism, like every other group in America, might have some fringe groups or crackpot elements.
We know, for example, that abortion clinics have been bombed. That has nothing to do with the Church or with pro-life organizations. It has to do with small numbers of disturbed people on the fringe.
I want to see the FBI investigate dysfunctional groups no matter where they are found.
They are not attacking the Church, because, if you are Catholic you know that Catholicism preaches peace, not terrorism.

Then why lie about it? If there was nothing to hide and Wray somehow by the time of his testimony didn't know others were involved, the various field offices should have called him up and told him to amend his testimony. I remember his testimony and he made it sound like it was a mistake by the lone office and was being corrected. Now we know that the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office and the Portland Field Office also participated.

Why wouldnt there be specifically Catholic identified groups who are violence oriented? I mean, there was the IRA.

I wouldn't tar Catholics generally with this at all. But why would Catholics be the one major religious group without a violent subset?

The FBI leadership gets information from a radical left wing group called the Southern Poverty Law Center. The SPLC smears groups that oppose left wing policies.

Im sure they get info from lots of places. If theres evidence, the FBI should follow up. If not then they should drop it.

It appears that Wray discussed the investigations requested, but perhaps minimized their scope.

On the other hand, I have seen Rep. Jordan in action at other Congressional hearings, and he has a long track record of blowing issues totally out of proportion. The more "scandals" he can hyperbolize, the more his perceived power increases.

We had riots around the United States. Black Lives Matter and Antifa were involved.

Are they targeting Catholics generally?

Or are there some Catholic identified and motivated groups that might have violent intent. We have seen that before, you know. Just like with every major religion.

So the guy Trump appointed is a liar who can't be trusted? Why would we elect him again if he is so bad at appointing people to do the work?

The idea was to put spies in Catholic churches.

So, the HJC decided to wade into an active FBI investigation and is surprised when the work-products of that on-going investigation are slow in coming?
Government works best when it’s not fighting itself.
