  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Who is Tanya Chutkan, the judge assigned to Trump’s January 6 case?

A 2014 appointee of Barack Obama, the federal judge was randomly assigned to oversee the case – and has ruled on a Trump case before

Aug 3, 2023
A Barrack Obama Apointee, just "randomly" picked to oversee the Jan 6th Donald J. Trump case, and don't forget the jury pool from 77% registered democrats and just 5% republican

Its Impossible to receive a fair trial under the circumstance before ones eyes, good thing Trump has a transfer to West Virginia in the works!

Why don't you just come out and say she/they are black and that that he wants to move it to WV where it's mostly white?

Then I guess it is also impossible for Trump to receive a fair trial in Florida and that case needs to be moved. A Trump appointed judge was "randomly" picked to oversee the documents case and, more to the unfair portion of it, she has previously illegally ruled in favor of Trump in a previous case (where she was taken to task by Republicans on the Appeals Court).

So what would make West Virginia more fair than Washington, D.C. or Florida?

Of course Trump's legal team can seek a change of venue. But, typically, there needs to be a better reason than simply not liking the judge or the venue where the crime occurred.

Don't like the potential judge and jury pool in a particular jurisdiction?

Simple.

Don't do crimes in that jurisdiction.

Mr Trump brought this on himself. Anyone without a permanent Secret Service detail would already be in pre trial detection.

7 out of the 13 active judges on the DC District Court are Obama appointees, so an Obama appointee being assigned is actually to be expected. And as for a transfer of venue, it requires that Trump prove to the judge that "so great a prejudice against the defendant exists in the transferring district that the defendant cannot obtain a fair and impartial trial there." While to the best of my knowledge it hasn't been tried, I doubt the fact that the majority of voters in the district are of the "wrong" political party meets that standard.

Even in Florida the prosecutors are bending the rules, going "Outside" of the district for a grand jury of their choice, "Corrupt"!

Florida District Judge Aileen Cannon, a Trump appointee, also demanded an explanation of "the legal propriety of using an out-of-district grand jury proceeding to continue to investigate and/or to seek post-indictment hearings on matters pertinent to the instant indicted matter in this district."

You continue to parrot the Trump talking points.
Hint: This case will be tried in a court of law based on the facts.

Trump has not even interacted with Judge Chutkan and already, he's crying about not having a fair trial. Pathetic!

The activity the DC grand jury is investigating took place in both Florida and DC, and it's easier for a local grand jury to investigate those issues then requiring everything and everybody to be sent to Florida. It's quite possible it's a novel approach but even if it is doesn't mean there is anything illegal or underhanded going on.

If it truly was a banana republic, why bother with an indictment or trail at all?
Well if not a banana republic, then they’d have to admit the justice system is working as it should and their hero is actually being held accountable.

They have arrests and trials in banana republics like Venezuela, they are controlled just as presidents Trumps arrest and prosecution is being controlled

(Maduro) has his military police force arresting his political opposition

(Biden) has his DOJ arrest his political opposition, in Donald J. Trump

(Maduro) has his buddies in appointed judges try the cases

(Biden's) DOJ sees that an Obama appointed Judge is supposedly randomly picked to hear the case

See there, Joe Biden in a banana republic, no different than Maduro in Venezuela

There isn't a normal functioning government, Hillary Clinton is still free after direct violations of the espionage act, 33,000 classified emails removed with several being "Top Secret", computers and private servers bleach bit, 5 blackberry phones destroyed, all in obstruction of justice, and FBI James Comey let Hillary off the hook without charges or prosecution?

It's not a double standard of justice, it's a quadruple standard of injustice

If you want justice, its a matter of who you know and how much can you afford

With liberty and justice for all?

It is important to remember that Justice Chutkan's Senate Confirmation in 2014 was unanimous---95 to 0!

Apparently her reputation was so sterling that every Republican in the Senate voted to confirm her!

How fortunate "Mr. Trump" is to have a presiding justice who was unanimously approved by his own party!

Actually Biden didn't have Trump arrested. He was indicted by a grand jury, as required in the Constitution. Federal law requires that he be tried in the district that the alleged crime was committed in, which in this case was the Federal District for the District of Columbia. 7 of the 13 active judges on said court were Obama appointees, so there was a greater then even chance of a Obama judge being selected. And note that there are Biden appointed judges on the same court. If it was rigged, why not one of those judges? So two examples of due process according to the law of the land and a completely unremarkable coincidence are indicative of a banana republic?
