, If we obey God he will bless us ?
There is a way that you can sort of test this to be truth or not. It's done through Tithing.
Malachai 3:10
10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.../
I did test this for myself a few years back. I was self employed with wife & kids and work was slow. Many times during thin times I found myself reading the word and when I read this I knew I had to try it. It was awesome because being self employed means I collected the checks after I completed jobs. My bank was on the way home and so was my church. My church there had a lot of wodden lock boxes with locks and stuff to make donations in. They never once while I attended there asked the congregation for $. But these donation boxes were all over the church and one was right by the front door! So I used it and did it on my way home and didn't even tell my wife that I was testing tithing. Why argue about it?!
We can't afford to give that much! I can hear it now but had faith in God. And I tell you what...there is no way that I can truthfully say that tithing doesn't work. Because it does! I'm in my slow season for work and I get busy! Sometimes it would be a windfall of cash, other times it would be more service calls for me to go make money. I remember one time, I had done a job and cashed the check and stopped off and paid the tithes on it. ANd before I got out of the parking lot my phone rang with more work!
So it's not that we can't afford to tithe, but rather, we can't afford not to tithe.
After that, I learned that the bible continually tells us to care for the poor. Care for the widows, the poor, those in jail. It says it a lot. So I have taken to doing this also. There is not any shortage of homeless people on the street so I help them out as much as I can. Giving it to them on the street is easier than giving it to a church and makes it easier for them to get help. It's not buying blessings but it does help and to help these people out of a love for the Lord and therefore wanting to be obediant to him. What goes around comes around. I think Karma is real.
