  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

My ONLY thought is …
“Filing a lawsuit is easy. Winning a lawsuit is a lot harder.”

Heck, I could file a $400 million lawsuit against CNN and Donald Trump because their bickering is causing me emotional distress. What are the initial court fees? A few hundred dollars.

Trickle down economics is a farce. That's what Trump's No Jobs Tax Act was. It gave corps already sitting on hordes of cash another tax cuts as if the one's the buy, er I mean lobby for weren't enough.
The numbers don't lie, and you can see who is paying the taxes. Someone is getting a break alright, and it's not the top 50%, and certainly not the top 1%.

I'm sorry. Never said they didn't pay taxes. What I said was Trump gave them another tax cut, or he put it when he went back to Mar A Largo, "You All Just Got a Lot Richer". What I am also saying is the idea the Trump camp maintained, is by cutting taxes for corps would create more jobs. That never happened. In fact if you take Trumps tenure and even remove the covid year (previous three years) they on a per month average lost more jobs than Obama's previous three years. So one more time. Thank God Trump lost because their whitehouse was an ineffective swamp who couldn't govern their way out a wet paper bag. All those issues Trump ran on, he never accomplished any of them. It's good he's not president given these times of worldwide inflation else the US go the direction of Trump's University, Casinos, Foundation, Airlines, Steaks, Vodka, and coming soon, Truth Social.

Obviously, we disagree, and I think it's pointless to argue the intricacies, some of which you may even be right about. I just find it frustrating that anyone can compare the two overall governing situations and actually argue that what we have now with Biden is better than what we had with Trump. That does it for me.

Here's the actual complaint. His whole argument seems to be that CNN defamed him by using the term "big lie." It's an interesting take on defamation law.
There is actually a lot more. According to the complaint: CNN has tried to taint the Plaintiff with a series of ever-more scandalous, false, and
defamatory labels of “racist,” “Russian lackey,” “insurrectionist,” and ultimately “Hitler.”
"Most notably, and, the subject of this complaint, is CNN’s persistent association of
the Plaintiff to Adolf Hitler and Nazism. When labels like “racist,” “Russian lackey,” and
“insurrectionist” did not have the desired effect to undermine the Plaintiff’s candidacy when
running for President or the Plaintiff’s accomplishments as President, CNN upped the stakes to
conjure associations between the Plaintiff and arguably the most heinous figure in modern history.
CNN’s persistent use of ever-increasing defamatory characterizations of the Plaintiff up to and
including comparing him to Hitler and Nazism demonstrates that it published its defamatory
statements about the Plaintiff with actual malice."

The "Big Lie" terminology is Hitler-era. Yes, ‘Big Lie’ Is a Nazi Reference | National Review

One available defence is that the accusations are true...

You do know that nothing will come of Trump's action, don't you?

Sure....He's "Hitler." You do know how that sounds to rational people, right?

Of course it's the top. You have to make about $123K (MFJ) before you pay 10% in federal income tax.

Like protected political speech concerning a public figure.
No, rather it is abusive slander (or libel, depending) that minimizes and mocks the very real losses of Holocaust families, who lost family members in the camps or in the ovens. That's why the logical fallacy of Reductio ad Hitlerum (playing the Hitler Card) is well known, and is the argument pulled out by a certain segment when all legitimate discourse fails.

When you find those camps or dead bodies Trump piled up, let me know. Otherwise, get of here with that nonsense. I'm not interested in that. Don't respond to me if this is all you've got.

How the Hitler card works: Criticizing persons (or groups) simply because they accept some idea associated with Hitler and the Nazis, or because of some superficial similarities. Often politicians or political groups are attacked in this way. When directed at a person, it is a form of the abusive ad hominem, since few want to be associated with Nazism or Hitler.

Even if this is correct and applicable to this case, nowhere does this suggest such action makes the act of speech liable or criminal.

The courts will decide.

A federal judge on Friday dismissed Donald Trump’s lawsuit against CNN, in which the former president said the network defamed him by associating him with Adolf Hitler.
Trump argued that by using the phrase the “big lie” in reference to his unfounded claim that the 2020 presidential election was stolen, the network created an unfair association between him and the Nazi regime.
Hitler and Nazi minister of propaganda Joseph Goebbels used the term as a propaganda tool that involved repeating a falsehood until the public started to believe it. A quote, “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it,” is often attributed to Goebbels, though it’s unclear where the comment came from.
Trump argued that the network’s references to the “big lie” created a “false and incendiary association” between him and Hitler, and caused “readers and viewers to hate, contempt, distrust, ridicule, and even fear” him. But U.S. District Judge Raag Singhal ruled that the comments did not constitute defamation.

Trump-appointed judge torches former president's lawsuit against CNN

In his ruling Singhal wrote that the comments were purely opinions and not statements of fact "and therefore not actionable."

Well this case is now closed. We are far better under Biden.
It's not over yet!

Trump-Appointed Judges Reject His ‘Meritless’ and ‘Unpersuasive’ Arguments

Two federal appeals court judges appointed by President Donald Trump rejected his arguments as "meritless" and "unpersuasive" when agreeing with a lower courts decision to dismiss Trump's $475 million defamation lawsuit against CNN for its coverage of the riots at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.

The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals Judges Adalberto Jordan, Kevin Newsom, and Elizabeth L. Branch issued the decision affirming the lower court's ruling on Tuesday.

OK, now it's over. Or is it?
