I don't care that Biden beat Trump. I don't care that Biden is a Democrat. But there certainly is an exaggerated attack on the USA right to try and make out that Biden is senile. There is no truth to it, certainly no evidence for it. He is definitely not a young man, and he does look old.
There is senility kicking in.

You watch how he conducts himself now (there's actually several video examples of him forgetting things and losing his train of thought)

These are the things that happen to 40% of adults when they reach the age of 80. I'm not saying it to bash the guy...same thing happened to 2 of my grandparents when they got older.

I was highlighting an indirect benefit of the Canadian parliament system being that it basically forces people to gracefully retire one they pass their prime because being spry and sharp is basically a requirement of the job.

Take a look at him in 2012, way sharper, quicker on his feet with a comeback, less of a "tired"/"deer in the headlights" look

This 2012 Biden could've done just fine in a parliament environment.

The 2023 Biden could not.

When you watch his speech and debate performances side by side by the ones from a decade ago, it's clear that, at the very least, he's lost a little something.

He’s 81, these things happen.
McConnell and Biden are 81, and would be in the visual lower spectrum of health IMHO, Trump is 77 just 4 years younger, and he is vibrant and sharp as a tack, regardless if one likes him or not

Biden is one step away from a wheel chair and a managed rest home, hard to believe he's president of the USA

The many leaders laugh at him around the world in meetings, they treat him as if he's non-existant in many cases "Sad"

Not when you consider who he ran against.

But... Id say both parties have a primary election problem. D's are scared and backward looking. R's are radicalized.

Look I get it...he was the guy who was able to beat Trump and get things back to something resembling a sliver of normalcy...that's why I voted for him.

But can we stop pretending that an 80 year old man (who's clearly in cognitive decline) is "the same old Biden he was in 2012"? The Biden we have today as president isn't the same Biden who was able to go toe to toe in a VP debate against Paul Ryan.

It's perfectly acceptable to say that a lot of 80 year old are experiencing mental decline in any other context, as soon as you bring up that Biden (and 80 year old man) may be having some of the same problems that afflict 40% of all people 80+, people act like it's an unreasonable assertion and "ageist" or some sort of "right wing talking point"
Something else to understand: Beyond a certain age, when decline happens, it can be sudden and astoundingly rapid. Someone who was keen and sharp at 80 can be practically catatonic by 82. Or not...until 85...then suddenly.

What is the perceived threat in the Defense bill? Really? You have to ask? How about disruptive technologies like hypersonic weapons, artificial intelligence, 5G, and quantum computing. How about the fact that we have to spend almost a trillion dollars a year because nations want to fight with each other.

Perceived threat to McConnell.....

Also very true...I noted before I had two grandparents who dealt with it.

In the case of one, it was a rather slow decline that happened over the course of 5 years...in the case of the other, it was much more rapid.

Recall McConnel did have a fall in March, and suffered a concussion. Reportedly, that fall has taken a toll on him physically.

Some possible causes....

There are several possible explanations for the episode, two neurologists said, although they stressed that they did not examine Mr. McConnell and only saw video of the incident.

Dr. Lee Schwamm, a neurologist and stroke expert at Yale, and Dr. Jeffrey Saver, a neurologist at the U.C.L.A. School of Medicine, said that the two most likely reasons for the episode were a transient ischemic attack — a sort of mini stroke — or a partial seizure.

“If I were his doctor or was in that audience, I would have recommended he go to the emergency room immediately,” Dr. Schwamm said.

Transient ischemic attacks occur when blood flow to part of the brain is temporarily blocked. They usually last for five to 10 minutes, Dr. Schwamm said.

A seizure, perhaps resulting from a head injury, was also possible, Dr. Saver said. The neurologists said a migraine was another less likely possible cause of the episode.

I absolutely agree that he is getting older and that he is old. No arguments there.

I think they're referring to him not being any worse off (cognitively speaking) than he was, say 10 or 15 years ago.

Which I would say is true. I can't say I notice a huge difference in how Trump speaks & conducts himself now vs. 2010. He's the same egotistical, braggadocios, and insult-throwing guy now that he was back then.

McConnell recently fell leaving a plane besides the fall in March. He had polio as a child and had a residual issue from that. IMHO, he should use a rolling walker to avoid falls as it is easier to break bones or do damage to the brain at that age when one falls.

Hopefully he is getting checked out again by the doctors. It sounds like a TIA, Transcient Ischemic Attack.

I believe TIA is just another term for "mini-stroke" correct? That was going to be my guess.

I've seen elderly relatives who've had those, and they're very brief, and when they snap out of it, everything is back to normal in a few mins.

It appears at 81 Ole Micth should throw the towel in and retire, but that won't happen in his position of power and authority, sorta like a Ruth Ginsburg in my opinion?

Yep, same goes for Diane Feinstein, she said she won't seek reelection, but isn't going to quit (which would actually give democrats more options if she did). If she vacated her office now, Gavin could appoint a replacement until the end of the term.

Even NBC picked up on how "out of it" she is

Like I said, there's something to the confrontational high-energy nature of the Canadian parliament. You need to be on your toes to thrive in that environment. I'd venture a guess and say that half of our congressmen and senators are past their prime and would look foolish if they had to think on their feet.

LOL, I think it is difficult to assess D Trump, he often talks like 10 year old. He's not reached the level of cognition that most adults reach.

The Canadian and English parliament its fashioned after is a 3 ring circus in my opinion, no comparison to America's congressional order

Does McConnell, Biden, and Feinstein need to vacate their positions, 100% yes IMHO

It appears your personal political opinions of Donald J. Trump are at play here

He used to be able to speak in complete paragraphs with complex clauses but now he rambles repetitiously hitting on key phrases.

I enjoy hearing the sound of my own voice telling a story, and I’m fairly good at it. The Donald, in his heyday, was a Grandmaster as a raconteur, it’s like Hearst (Kane), only he didn’t even need to OWN the newspapers just use them to his own benefit, it was cheaper and he was good at it, still is.
