  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Ammon Bundy arrested on charge of trespassing in Meridian
A statement from Bundy's campaign says he was at a hospital in support of a family whose baby had been "medically kidnapped."

[While I don't like giving Ammon Bundy any airtime, his shenanigans are dangerous to democracy, he's now running for governor, and the details of this story are a little disturbing.]

The Meridian Police Dept. said in a news release issued later Saturday morning that police on Friday received an Idaho Health and Welfare referral about a ten-month-old child who had been admitted to the hospital on March 1 "after medical personnel determined the child was suffering from severe malnourishment."

The child was discharged into the care of its parents on March 4, after the child was able to gain enough weight. However, during a follow-up appointment, Meridian Police said, it was determined that the child had again lost a significant amount of weight, but the parents canceled the next follow-up appointment and could not be located.

[After further refusals from the family,] Meridian Police received a warrant to enter the home, but discovered the parents and the child had left before officers could check on the child.

[Police pulled over the family car and took the child to the hospital.]

According to Meridian Police, Bundy "and several of his followers" showed up to St. Luke’s Meridian and refused to leave the property when asked to do so.

(It seems to me to be either a case of abuse or a serious medical condition. The intervention of authorities seems justified to me.)

I hope the child is okay.

He's getting treatment in the hospital, but the Lt. Gov. is trying to stop that, and there's a GiveSendGo to raise money for the family to sue.

There's not a lot of info, but I see hints that the child is not thriving on the mother's milk, and possibly that's the only thing he's being fed.

“I won’t [give up the child],” [the mother] said during the livestream. “He only takes breast milk. He needs me. He really needs me.”

Well, apparently not. He was severely malnourished, requiring a hospital stay. While in the hospital, he gained weight back and was released. Then once released, he starts losing weight again and the family avoids going to the doctor. Was he only getting breast milk while in the hospital? If so, breast milk solely from the mother?

There's nothing wrong with a mother unable to produce sufficient milk for a baby. That's not her fault. What is her fault is what seems to be her actively avoiding the solution the the problem

Why the government let this man get away with seizing federal land and threatening the lives of agents sent to enforce legitimate laws is beyond me. He and his crimes should have led to incarceration or a violent end years ago.

So pretty much a nobody

Just because you don't know them by name and are too lazy to read the article the thread is about doesn't mean they are a nobody. It just means you're being lazy.

Do you understand the term vapid? You choose to mock a poster in a really poor attempt at cyber bullying instead of adding anything interesting or Germaine to the topic.

my point, lost on you, is that he is a homeless nobody, who other than running as a Republican should garner no mention at all.

Ammon isn't homeless. He owns a car fleet management company in Phoenix AZ. He has not lived in Idaho until more recently.
Ammon was also the leader of the 2016 occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge.[7][8][9]

It's rude to refer to anyone as a "nobody" and not justified by your unfamiliarity with him. I am not a Bundy fan by any means, but he and his family are active in the political arena so dismissing this thread by denigrating the man's notoriety seems ungrounded in reality.

St. Luke's condemns harassment at hospital and over the phone
St. Luke's Boise medical center went into lockdown briefly Tuesday as protesters gathered outside, but other disruptions have continued.

St. Luke's public relations manager Christine Myron sent another statement Wednesday evening, saying leaders at St. Luke's Boise Medical Center made the decision to implement a temporary lockdown and divert incoming patients to other medical providers Tuesday "in response to growing safety concerns after a large group of protesters gathered along Avenue B/Broadway Avenue and along the sidewalk surrounding the building...

Nurses, doctors, and other employees were instructed not to enter or exit the building, and not open the doors to anyone. Incoming ambulances carrying patients were diverted away from St. Luke's to Saint Alphonsus and other area hospitals.

People seeking medical attention were asked to go to other facilities, while the general public was urged to avoid the area entirely.

"St. Luke's phone lines have received a surge in calls, tying up resources, disrupting services and preventing people in need of reaching their caregivers, staff members and others. St. Luke's team members have been, and continue to be, subjected to harassment and profanity-laced calls; in some cases, their personal information has been shared online, resulting in hateful language and very visible and alarming threats on social media.

[County sheriff] Clifford also told people who were upset with the officers' decision to stop calling 911 and non-emergency dispatch to voice their complaints, saying these calls were taking away from dispatchers' abilities to coordinate emergency response for police, fire, and EMS services.

Deputies handle such difficult and complex cases "more often than I would like," the sheriff said, writing that ACSO investigators declared a child to be in imminent danger in 40 separate cases last year.

"Each case was unique and complex — and there was clear and comprehensive evidence for investigators to declare a person to be in imminent danger in every one of those cases," he wrote.

Far-right activist and gubernatorial candidate Ammon Bundy [one note, I understand he's running as an independent] has helped rally the demonstrators. In a video posted online about an hour before the lockdown, Bundy directed his followers to return to St. Luke's, saying he had heard from someone that officials planned to transport the baby from the hospital to a foster placement.

I remember when my daughter left the army in 2013. The oath keepers were recruiting from the pool of inactive, discharged soldiers and she went out to the Bundy's standoff with the feds. I worried about her for a couple weeks after she came back. She had the oath keepers attire and a sticker on her jaguar. But after the initial excitement wore off she realized the oath keepers were not in her best interests to join. I believe that was when the Bundys were free grazing their cattle on federal land and resisted paying the fines and the consequences for their actions. And the oath keepers and other militias organized in defense of the Bundys. I feel lucky our daughter had enough common sense to avoid getting caught up in the extremist movement.
