  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Doesn’t Want to Use Gender-Identity Pronouns, Thinks Website-Designer Decision May Help

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Catholic bookstore owner in Florida that wants to avoid using pronouns that don’t correspond with a person’s sex may have gotten a boost from a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision in the unrelated 303 Creative v. Elenis case, some legal observers say.

Christie DeTrude, owner of Queen of Angels Catholic Store in Jacksonville, says she wants to issue a policy requiring that staff members “only use pronouns and titles that align with the biologically originating sex of the person being referenced,” citing the Catholic teaching that God created human beings male and female as an essential part of his plan for creation.

“Should someone interacting with the bookstore request a pronoun or form of address that would violate our policy, employees should respectfully and charitably decline, and instead use a form of address that does not contradict someone’s biologically originating sex, such as the person’s first or last name,” the owner’s draft policy says.

But the store hasn’t published the policy because DeTrude is worried that the city of Jacksonville would then take action against the store for violating the city’s Human Rights Ordinance, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of gender identity, according to court papers in a lawsuit the store filed in February.

Sec. 406.102. - Declaration of policy.

The City declares it to be the policy of the City to provide, within the limits of the Constitution of the United States, access to public accommodations for all people within the City. The availability of access to public accommodations without discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, ancestry, to national origin, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, pregnancy, disability, marital status, or familial status is a matter of concern to the people of Jacksonville and more particularly of concern to the City in providing for the health, welfare, safety and morals of the people of Jacksonville.

The Supreme Court case might provide a defense if DeTrude were to be prosecuted...but I don't think she'd ever be prosecuted, particularly not in Florida. She's not proposing to deny service to anyone.

Hmm.

I wonder at what point when you enter the store, that the staff at the Catholic Bookstore view my genitals? Is it mentioned whether it's done by a doctor, someone from HR, or the Owner? Just just a cashier....because that wouldn't feel right.

Talk about "woke." This feels a lot like a store owner that wants attention, maybe some free advertising, so is promoting a policy that is impossible to enforce by "virtue signaling" to religious people she hopes will frequent her store.

LGBTQ activists groups will persecute her financially. They'll bring lawsuits knowing that they'll
drop them before they go to court. This will force De Trude to hire a defense attorney, which
of course cost money.

This is what is happening to the baker in Colorado. despite having the SCOTUS decision on his side.

Neither the birthday cake nor the trans cake were dropped before they went to court.
In both cases, Phillips was sued and fined.

"Before filing her lawsuit, Scardina filed a complaint against Phillips with the state, and the Colorado Civil Rights Commission found probable cause that Phillips had discriminated against her. Phillips then filed a federal lawsuit against Colorado, accusing it of waging a “crusade to crush” him by pursuing the complaint.

In March 2019, lawyers for the state and Phillips agreed to drop both cases under a settlement which still allowed Scardina to pursue a lawsuit on her own. At the time, Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser said both sides agreed it was not in anyone’s best interest to move forward with the cases."

The point is to wear him down economically, which is their primary objective after the SCOTUS ruled in his favor.

I'm not sure that it's even economic really, I'm afraid the goal is even darker than that.
They really want to make him have to back down and choose his livelihood over his faith. It's truly vicious and diabolical.

DENVER (AP) — A Colorado baker who won a partial victory at the U.S. Supreme Court in 2018 for refusing to make a wedding cake for a same-sex couple went on trial Monday in yet another lawsuit, this one involving a birthday cake for a transgender woman...
Scardina, an attorney, requested a cake that was blue on the outside and pink on the inside in honor of her gender transition.
Her lawsuit is the latest in a series of cases around the U.S. that pit the rights of LGBTQ people against merchants' religious objections, an issue that remains unsettled by the nation's top court.

And they'll keep going to trial until the plaintiffs drop the case as the lower courts side with the Supreme Court's prior rulling.

I know this happens as it happened in my dioceses as an activists couple sued the diocese claiming that the diocese refused
to sell them a piece of property because they were gay. The dioceses had no idea who was making the offer, only that they were
not meeting the price the dioceses waw looking for. The activist couple dropped the case before it ended up in court. The dioceses
still had to pay a defense lawyer in the case.

A different case, but the same effect on the defendant's finances.

"A spokesperson for First Liberty told Fox News Digital that the Kleins intend to appeal the decision to the Oregon Supreme Court and, if necessary, the U.S. Supreme Court. "

If they look like they're going to lose the lawsuit. they will drop the case before the court rules against them. This is the tactic
for LGBTQ activists.

I wasn't saying it doesn't happen only that it didn't happen and it wasn't the plan in this case in Colorado where I live.

"She said she called Phillips’ Masterpiece Cakeshop to place the order after hearing about the court’s announcement because she wanted to find out if he really meant it.

When her lawyer Paula Greisen asked whether the call was a “setup,” she said it was not.

“It was more of calling someone’s bluff,” she said."

and

"In March 2019, lawyers for the state and Phillips agreed to drop both cases under a settlement which still allowed Scardina to pursue a lawsuit on her own. At the time, Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser said both sides agreed it was not in anyone’s best interest to move forward with the cases."

Philips was fined $500 for refusing to make the cake. The problem is, he first accepted the order, but rejected it
after learning what it was for. I still think he has the right to refuse after learning the reason for the cake.
I don't know if he will appeal to a higher court, or just pay the fine and let it go. However, the lawsuit is still
in place by Scardina, who isn't going to let it go.

The problem in this country is that lawsuits can be made against a person usually free of charge, while the defendant has
to pay a lawyer to defend them. In this case, Philips is being harassed with the lawsuits made by activists like Scardina.
