  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Earth has just experienced the hottest day we have ever recorded

If we say this earth is billions or 6000 years what ever our dating of weather with good data goes back 1880. So "ever" is not that long ago
Sure, back when the earth's climate was too hot to support life it was even hotter

The point is that it's getting too hot for us 8 billion humans. It doesn't matter if there was a hotter day in July 5 million years ago, it's getting too hot for us now

The Earth experienced it. Whatever you experienced was averaged in with all the other parcels of surface area.

AVERAGE day.

When I read the title to this thread, my first thought was: "where"?

Earth. The average temperature would have been based on various points. But it’s the Earth where they all took place.

I know that NOW.

These scientific articles are just clickbait, in my opinion.

Probably one day last week, the [entire] earth was five degrees hotter than average, and no one even noticed.

You could click on the link and examine the graphed data and determine whether that's true. Use evidence to prove scientists wrong.

Do you think they send a man out with a thermometer?

It would be noticed.

A few weeks ago there was an earthquake, the epicenter was only a few kilometers from where I live.
I never noticed it but it was detected and measured in your own country.

What do you think is more significant not noticing the earthquake and therefore doubting it occurred, or accepting the physical evidence of the earthquake with the detection of S and P waves by seismic stations around the planet?
The same principles apply to climate change.

Of course it would.

Just like the Challenger was.

You're giving science too much credit for being observant.
Not the Challenger disaster again.
You are so profoundly ignorant you can't even direct your bigotry against the right source.
The Challenger disaster was an engineering not a science issue; go learn the difference between the two.

Here is a video which shows why the Challenger disaster was the result of an engineering design problem.

What source was I directing "my bigotry" against?

I said I didn't notice the earth had gotten hotter.

Lamb said it would have been noticed though -- (but he didn't say by whom).

I said, "Just like the Challenger was."

That was a good comparison I made.

Just like I didn't notice the earth getting hotter, no one noticed the Challenger's predicament.

Again, what source was I directing "my bigotry" against?

Science? management? passers by? engineers? NASA administration? all the above?

Who?

(Maybe you'd like to retract that remark, eh?)

Your posts are another example of trying derail a thread with your anti-science nonsense in this case by making ridiculous comparisons with Challenger.
It is disingenuous for you to now try spread the blame around when you have made perfectly clear in this and in past posts science played a significant role in the Challenger disaster.

The video makes it very clear it was an engineering disaster from start to finish, it was the engineers from Thiokol and NASA who argued whether the launch should proceed and as there were engineers who suspected there was a potential design problem with the O-rings seals in the boosters.
It took a scientist Richard Feynman to come to the realization the disaster was caused by the failure of the O-rings to recover when under load if the ambient temperature was below freezing.

In your silly little bigoted world of blaming scientists don't let the facts get in the way; scientists played no role in the launch decision or the O-ring design even though it was Feynman who came up with the failure mode which allowed the engineers to address the design flaw by redesigning the boosters.
