  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The question might as well have been asked in this way:
If I'm the center of the Universe, what laws of physics have been violated?

Fair enough.

What's the answer?

I don’t know of our position as the center, but we are the center of Gods focus.

I agree.

I'm fond of saying that, if the earth isn't geocentric to the universe, it is certainly geoprominent (I made that term up).

According to Genesis 1, the earth was created first, then the universe was created around it.

So whether the earth is in the center, off to one side, or on the edge, the universe was created after it.

It is the first object in the universe with mass.

If by "centre point" you are referring to a geometrical centre, where is the centre point on the surface of a globe or an infinitely large sheet of paper?

that’s what I’m saying it could be anywhere. But a sphere has (three dimensional has only one. But where is the center of an irregular shape which the universe might be. In the heart of the universe might be.

You are missing the point.
A geometrical object like a sphere is embedded in the surrounding 3-D space and therefore has a centre.
The universe is not an object embedded in space, it is space-time itself, and it therefore makes no sense to state it has a centre.
The boundary of the observable universe isn't a physical boundary or edge it is a particle horizon where any object beyond this boundary is causally disconnected from the observable universe.
As a model the observable universe can be thought of as the surface of an expanding sphere of radius 46.5 billion light-years.
Being a surface there is no centre and an observer at each point on this surface will see the universe expanding in the same way like any other observer.

Ignorant is not the word… uneducated
I'm uneducated on physics. That much is true. I only remember it having a lot of math involved.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

How can any object be the center when literally everything is moving relative to everything else?

So, in that sense, if the earth were the center of the entire universe, that would mean everything in the universe moves relative to the earth, which simply isn't what we observe. Stellar parallax couldn't occur, for example, nor could planetary transits.

In the Ptolemaic model, sure, the earth could be the center--but the Ptolemaic model is wrong, demonstrably wrong.

The earth just isn't the center of the universe, because no object can be the center of the universe. Because everything is moving relative to everything else, and the universe itself is expanding.

Do you agree that the universe HAS a center?
