School faces lawsuit for making student remove 'only two genders' shirt: 'Censoring a 7th-grader'

I was asking because I keep hearing about a protected class. So I figured there must be an unprotected class. Otherwise why make such a distinction? The kid's claim is the other side is doing what he got censored for. That one thing is being promoted and advocated while the other thing is being censored.

Unprotected is the default state. Thats because we dont want the govt meddling in every single market interaction between private entities.

We've only created protected classes where history has demonstrated that lack of protection can lead society to dark places. The effects of rank racism in the marketplace come to mind. "Whites only" as an sign you might see in business windows for example.

Typically, choice of attire does not merit govt protection. Schools, businesses, etc are free to have dress codes in terms of casual/formal, or in terms of slogans etc.

It's actually more relevant to education than any other setting, and it was worn to school (where they should be teaching basic biology).

It doesn't seem to me to be that different to the stuff the smart kids in my day would have worn, especially if the school wasn't teaching something...

Like 'Go The Mets', or 'E=MC2'? Or Peace and Love'? No, not like that. This wasn't a t shirt the kid picked up at the local mall. This was specifically designed to make a political point. And not by the kid. His parents organised this. Without any shadow of doubt. And they used their child.

You want this to be some innocent kid's attempt to inject some child-like clarity into a world you think is going to hell in a handbasket. You don't want this to be a planned political statement. You don't feel it's needed. But to reject that idea, you have to plead innocent to what people will actually do. You don't want to think that parents could be that manipulative. So you have to look naive.

Unprotected is white, straight, male, Christian, and conservative.

Protected classes are everyone else - though it should be said that women are loosing, or have already lost, their protected class to, of all people, men.

Which of course they'll never admit to. So it's interesting to see what they come up with instead.

Didn't you know Amazon sells about a couple dozen versions of that shirt - along with a multitude of other stores online?

All his parents did was buy the kid a shirt that I, as a parent, have no doubt the kid asked for...

As a parent who has tried to get kids to wear things they didn't want to wear, this isn't about the parents. If he'd been forced into it that's the thing he'd be broadcasting to anyone who would listen - not his own reasoning for doing so.

But these shirts and others like them are, as I said, specifically designed to make a political point. Neither would be suitable to wear to school. One would be making a political point in doing so. And there is no way that the parents would not have been involved in this.

Why won't you answer a very simple question? You've accurately explained what the situation is. You've shown that you understand what it is. Now I'm just asking if you think that would cause a problem for someone. Do you think it might and that they should seek help to solve that problem?

What's political is my lovely LGB cup (I can't spell it out on this forum without getting banned) on my bedside table (a gift from my sister in law)... not a shirt declaring 4th grade level biology facts.

Any comments on a t shirt are either ads, something humorous or a political statement. Wearing that t shirt is a political statement. It's another type of bumper sticker, except you get to wear it. On that basis I'd object to someone wearing a 'Multiple gender' t shirt to school. You want to wear one to a rally? Go for your life. School? Not acceptable.

The reality is that some people think their gender does not match their biological sex. There is no doubt about that. These people will tell you that. They will tell you that they consider it a problem. I'm asking you if you agree it's a problem. I've asked you 3 or 4 times now and you seem not to want to admit it. I've already stated that yes it's a problem. Yes!

However, I also stated just because someone says they are the opposite sex doesn't mean they are. You. cannot. change. biology. full stop.

Unless the school has no issues with other clothes, such as LGBTQ rainbows, which is definitely political.

If it's political and inappropriate to say aloud what we were taught IN school, worn TO school - then it needs to be considered political and inappropriate to have a rainbow flag flying on the school building, instead of "inclusive".
