Sodom and Gomorrah has nothing on us. We are worse.
While the evils of Sodom and Gomorrah were extreme:
49 “‘Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were
arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy. 50
They were haughty and did detestable things before me. Therefore I did away with them as you have seen. " -- The Lord, in Ezekiel 16, on why He destroyed Sodom and her sister cities
We see there the serious deadly sins of:
1) Lack of charity
2) Haughtiness/arrogance
3) Detestable actions such as raping/murdering visitors to the city
But the New Testament prophecy for near the end says:
"
1 But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days.
2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. ..."
This list of sins is indeed very evil also...
It's hard to say what portion of the population is caught up in that though, but it's not 'all or 'almost all' really, not yet.
While in Sodom
"all the men of the city, young and old" came to attack the visitors.
"all":
"Before they had gone to bed, all the men from every part of the city of Sodom—both young and old—surrounded the house." -- Gen 19:4
So, if today in the U.S. we are a lesser amount than "all" or almost all, but much less, more like 1/2 or such, then we aren't there yet to the level of Sodom.
While very
many Americans will
slander those in another political party, such as Republicans slandering Democrats (and visa-versa), there are still very many of us that
won't slander those in the other political party.
So, I think we are not yet at the level of Sodom.... though we have been sliding downhill as a nation....
It just seems really bad compared to say 50 years ago. But it can get worse.
