  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why is lust so powerful?

Why does lust seem to be the most powerful sin?
Lust comes in many forms. It is the flesh that lusts and we should have a higher calling beyond the needs of the flesh. Through His Holy Spirt we can overcome the selfishness of the flesh. That being said, we will be in the flesh till death.
Blessings.

Why does lust seem to be the most powerful sin?
Because it is a counterfeit of a powerful good thing. The issue is why we settle for a counterfeit so easily.

Because it comes from the enemy it is so compelling but also too, they keep up the temptations til you learn to silence it.
By knowing what it is, and where it comes from is a huge step forward. Prayer to avoid it is huge.
Lust is the sneakiest because it appears to be love, yet it is not.
Trauma bonding at it's best, abusive relationship at it's worst.

Understand the true meaning of "lust."

Sexual desire, is not lust.

Lust is an extension of the ego onto the other person. A person
who lusts for another, will try and make the sexual encounter
possible if they can.

Sexual desire on the other hand, is a strong passion and a gift from
God when acted upon in its proper context. Go forth and
multiply was God's commandment to Adam and Eve. This would not
happen if not for sexual desire. So, we follow God's commandment as
Adam and Eve did.

Lust is natural. It is so powerful because we need other people. For it, many men and women have overcome themselves to find the one God has for them.
Lust is natural … for fallen humanity whose nature has become bent and disordered. Lust is a perversion of desire, desire which was built in to our biology.

Thank you for your responses.
Blessed Mother, most pure, will crush the serpents head. So he attacks purity with a vengeance. Lucifer, a fallen angel, has all the powers and intellect of an angel-that has never changed. He is enraged, that a humble handmaiden will defeat him.

He goes after purity to turn others away from her, to try and win the battle, however, he has already lost.

But he doesn't want others to know that.

Shes his enemy, and never forget that the foundation of all the virtues is Purity.

Not just in the body, but in the mind and thoughts as well.

Chastity is meaningless, if you harbor hate or envy for your neighbor.

Meditating on Mary's virtues and going to confession with true contrition and and making a strong plan of amendment to turn away from sin is key.

Root out all your predominant faults, capitol sins and venial sins-do a general confession if you haven't.

Obtaining purity is serious work and you must want and love God above any and all other things in this life.

If you cannot get to confession, make it a priority in your life to get to one.

The world is falling to impurity. Think about that. The evil one is trying to destroy.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church says that “Lust is disordered desire for or inordinate enjoyment of sexual pleasure. Sexual pleasure is morally disordered when sought for itself, isolated from its procreative and unitive purposes” (CCC 2351).

Thank you for the definition, Michie. :)
Your welcome!

Pope Pius XII said: “The Creator himself … established that in the [generative] function, spouses should experience pleasure and enjoyment of body and spirit. Therefore, the spouses do nothing evil in seeking this pleasure and enjoyment. They accept what the Creator has intended for them. At the same time, spouses should know how to keep themselves within the limits of just moderation” (Address, 9 October 1951).

I think lust takes our normal desires and makes them disordered with all that comes along with that.

therefore we should do as God says and have a wife who we love more than our own flesh the wife of our youth. But some comfort….. it took me till I was 53 to find the right one. When I was ready she was there.

It is the one most people feel bad about because it is sexual in nature. I had a priest tell me in confession not to be so obsessed about sex stuff. Unless I am leering at someone or slapping behinds, I am not hurting people the same way as my other daily interactions.

Bashert. In the Talmud [tradition] to mean the destined ones.

Our thoughts are sins.

'In my thoughts and in my words....' part of our prayer.

Bashert. In the Talmud [tradition] to mean the destined ones.
For those that don’t know:

It’s a Yiddish word that can be used for various things and situations.

Bashert means “destined” or “intended.” It thus has several main meanings: Bashert means predestined by God: An event, set of circumstances, or situation can all be referred to as bashert, implying that whatever happens was orchestrated by God, who ultimately has our best interests in mind.
