  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hunter Biden countersues laptop repair shop owner, citing invasion of privacy

In the counterclaim, filed on Friday morning in U.S. District Court in Delaware, Biden and his attorneys say that John Paul Mac Isaac had no legal right to copy and distribute private information. They accuse him and others of six counts of invasion of privacy, including conspiracy to obtain and distribute the data.

The 42-page filing goes into significant detail on the ways Hunter Biden’s data became public, a development that propelled it into the maelstrom of the last presidential campaign and, since January, to the center of a Republican-led congressional investigation of the president’s son.

The move is a response to a suit filed by Mac Isaac himself last year and has amended several times since, alleging that Hunter Biden had defamed him by saying he had illegally accessed the data — when in fact, Mac Isaac contends, the laptop became his property when it was abandoned in his shop. The repairman’s suit also targeted CNN, Politico, the Biden campaign and Rep. Adam B. Schiff (R-Calif.).

It marks the first legal filing from Hunter Biden and his attorneys since his laptop emerged as a point of intense interest for the president’s political adversaries, and it reflects a newly aggressive approach by a legal team that Hunter Biden put in place in recent months. That team had previously sent criminal referrals and cease-and-desist missives to various people, but this is the first time the attorneys have formally gone into court.

Hunter Biden does not concede in his lawsuit that he dropped off the laptop, received an invoice or neglected to pick it up. In response to such claims by Mac Isaac, the filing states, “Mr. Biden is without knowledge sufficient to admit or deny the allegations.”

"Mr. Biden simply acknowledges that at some point, Mac Isaac obtained electronically stored data, some of which belonged to Mr. Biden.”

[Even if Mac Isaac's story is true...]

Delaware law says that personal property is only deemed abandoned after one year, and that certain steps have to be taken, such as posting public notices asking that the owner retrieve the property.

the Repair Authorization form states that the Mac Shop will make every effort to 'secure your data,’” the suit states. “Reputable computer companies and repair people routinely delete personal data contained on devices [in circumstances like this]

It's a little ironic that he would sue over an item that was considered to be a conspiracy theory when it was said to exist.

He's not suing about an item, but rather about his private data/information.
Ok, then his private information that was stored on an item that supposedly didn't exist, and was a product of a so-called conspiracy theory.

We don't really know where the data came from. We do know that pornographic images of H. Biden were posted on Twitter. Was that really necessary? Revenge porn posting is illegal.

You might want to read the article to it's conclusion rather than posting your lib owning quip and embarrassing yourself.

"Revenge" for what, exactly? It simply showed the guy doing what he does.
But if we don't know where the data came from, then Hunter really doesn't have a case in filing a lawsuit for anyone disclosing the contents of his computer.

If the data is Hunter's and authentic, he does have a case. If your nude pics fell off a turnip truck, you likely wouldn't want them disseminated by whoever found them. And if he, ludicrously, sued you, you might well return the favor.

A laptop was supposedly “abandoned” at the Delaware repair shop. I’m pretty sure that the manufacturer of this product takes great pains to identify each of the devices it sells with unique (and hard to counterfeit) identifiers (SN, MAC addresses etc.) and can say with a fair amount of certainty where and when each machine was purchased.

The idea that you would merely be able call up the company (Apple for example) and give them the serial number and they'll just tell you "oh, our records indicate belongs to a Mr Hunter Biden" is pretty silly.

It seems that H Biden did leave a laptop with someone with less than stellar ethics who knew a “Roger Stone”, (who appears to be the same “Roger Stone” who received a pardon from Donald Trump in the waning hours of his Presidency). [/baselessSpeculation]

Yup...crackhead do crackhead things.

Exactly, Hunter can no longer pretend that the information is not accurate, he may have just hung himself and is father at the same time.

Some of the information is accurate.

Whatever gets you through the day.
All of the information has been verified and none of it has ever been denied by Hunter, my day is much better than the day Hunter and Joe are going to have when they are able to have a family reunion in prison.

Nonsense.

The vast majority of the data — and most of the nearly 129,000 emails it contained — could not be verified by either of the two security experts who reviewed the data for The Post.

Most of the data obtained by The Post lacks cryptographic features that would help experts make a reliable determination of authenticity...

Among the reasons for the inconclusive findings was sloppy handling of the data, which damaged some records.

A forensic analysis reportedly determined the data found on the laptop believed to belong to Hunter Biden appears to be authentic.

Cyber forensic experts from Maryman & Associates were commissioned to examine thousands of text messages, emails, and photos on the laptop's contents that were found on a copy of the hard drive obtained by the Daily Mail. The materials themselves offer a look into the personal life and business dealings of the son of President Joe Biden.

The review found the data on the system "before April 2019 appears to be related to Mr. Biden, with timestamps appearing to be between 2016 and 2019," according to a report that culminated from the examination.

"The operating system timestamps appear to be authentic, and no evidence was found to suggest that the timestamps or data were altered or manufactured," the report added. "No indications were found that would indicate the data was manufactured."
Hunter Biden, 51, has never denied the authenticity of the computer materials, and he has never directly addressed what appears to be a computer repair invoice signed by him on April 12, 2019.
Hunter Biden’s ex-business partner Tony Bobulinski also corroborated the authenticity of a May 13, 2017, email from investor James Gilliar to himself, Biden's business associate Rob Walker, and James and Hunter Biden detailing a business deal between a Chinese company called CEFC and themselves, which included a reference to “the big guy” — who Bobulinski claims was Joe Biden.

'No evidence of fakery' is not the same as 'evidence of authenticity'.

Robert Graham, the founder of the cybersecurity firm Errata Security, said that at least one key email that had been published by the New York Post was “absolutely verified beyond a shadow of a doubt” after the outlet provided him with a copy of the email and its metadata for forensic analysis.

That metadata can be used to authenticate the emails. That metadata is absent for many of the emails, making them impossible to verify.
